• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:yikes: Your manual tells you what to do and check and there is a GREAT
"How To" section here so you can do it yourself and KNOW it was done!

My first service was $250.00. It's essentially just changing some of the oil and fluids and checking things out. I would shop it around. That seems very steep.

Is that a Quote over the phone, Or did you actually have the 600 mile service done and that's what you paid?:dontknow:
I ask because that is high even for NJ. ;)

i brought it in for the first 500mls service , thats the price i signed to pay after they finish..
i will not bring it back, i think its very steep..
and they made sure i didnt get a manual.. just there way of keeping me in the dark..
ill do the rest my self next time..
what do i need to keep track of so the the warranty is not VOID??

The manual is in the front trunk. If you have a trunk liner, it will be behind the zippered opening. It is also available online. The RS manual can be accessed from the SpyderLovers home page, and all owners manuals are available through the BRP Owners' Center, accessible from the bottom of their Web site pages. I doubt the dealer is trying to keep you from the manual...they probably failed to tell you where it is. If not, they owe you that and the safety DVD. You paid for them.

So what dealer is this? I paid about $170 at my dealers for the first service and thought that it was just a little high... Are there any other dealers within a reasonable ride that you can check out?

For the 600 mile checkup, which includes an oil change, there are about $80-$125 of parts involved, depending on what your dealer charges for oil, and on whether you have an SE5 which has an extra oil filter and o-ring. Approximately two hours of flat rate labor are involved for an RS, and another half hour for the RT. If you dealer requires more than three hours, find a better tech. Depending on your shop labor rates, the labor could run from $100 to $375. Your dealer is obviously charging the highest possible labor rates, longest shop time, and highest prices for oil. Shop around. You might also want to get an itemized estimate of these charges, to see exactly what is involved, so you can compare to other shops.

600 service

I paid 275.00 here in eastern NC. Asked for an itemized bill, didn't get it. Bike was there three days, because they wanted to do PWCs, 4 wheelers etc. first.:gaah:

get this there labor rate is 55.00 half hour, lol they only charge by the half.. what a scam.... this is extreme machines in millstone twp. ,, nj
i had some other problem with it hasitating after gettting warm then cooling off.. it would hes. then.. also it would stall on start up cold every now an then .
they told it me it was from topping off the tank.
they said wait till first service and break in time bring it in then. but i didnt think service alone was going to be that much.. a little over the top for my taste. but they are always book solid, so they must do something right there.
but ill do the next service myself.
one other question do i need anything special to remove the oil, will it just drain out or do i need to suck it out?
thanks all

Checkup

It cost me $246 for the 600 mile check up that included the oil and filters, flashing the ECM and the canister mod. I though it was high for parts plus 2 hours labor but the flash got rid of the rough running so I wasn't too upset with the cost.

Warm the engine up remove the dip stick, unscrew the two drain plugs,
[crankcase and oil tank] Then remove the filter The oil will come right out. REMEMBER the drain plugs are Allen's 6MM.

Doesn't seem too difficult...however, if someone does change their oil at the 600-mile mark...does the act have any effect on the warranty?

The 600 mile service also requires the tank oil strainer to be cleaned and inspected. You will need a new hose clamp, and possibly an o-ring. The service also involves checking and adjusting the drive belt (to the new spec if that was not done), lubricating the front suspension arms, checking and clearing any faults through BUDS, and performing any updates or recalls shown as necessary. Don't forget to go through all the fasteners to check tightness. The required items are listed in the maintenance schedule in your Owners Guiode.
