There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Sports Rack & Backrest

Now that my wife is riding with me I am seriuosly considering the installation of the sports rack and backrest on my phantom. How much of a hassle is it to install? Thanks for any input.

You can do it yourself if you are mechanical inclined, and have the tools.:roflblack:
Just takes time, but you really shouldn't have a problem.

Since I did not like the stock seat and replaced it, I wish I had never bought the sports rack/backrest. For just a bit more money I could have bought the Corbin seat with a passenger backrest.

Sorry for the rant. I guess my point is make sure you are going to stick with the stock seat before investing the money. If you aren't, there are better options for the money.

Short answer, the backrest is not difficult to install. Don't pay your dealer to do it if you can avoid it.

Backrest

I added my backrest and the cable was the hardest part. You have to remove a lot of plastic but it not that hard. My wife likes the backrest and does not like to ride without it.

Cable for sure is the hard part.Had backrest/sportrack on my spyder then went to corbin seat with a backrest so make sure you like the seat you have.

Neat stuff.

I have this setup - love how you can switch the backrest out for the tail cover in 1 minute.

I did the installation myself with the included instructions and a few read through this helpful post by mxz600:

This setup will make it a little time consuming installing brake tail lights when they blow. I suggest doing this mod while you are in there.

This mod will allow you to change a tail light (both) in 10mins at the side of the road - verses an 1-2 hour job without this mod, as you could have to uninstall parts of the tail section without it.

You can do all of this work in 2-3 hours, or on a Saturday if you take your time.

Hope that helps.
Good luck.
Cheers.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. The information provided is well appreciated. I'll have to check out the Corbin seat option before deciding on the sport rack and backrest.

I'm removing my Sport Rack and Back Rest and I'll use your directions to help me remove it. My question is about being able to do this with the tools that are provided with the kit that's in the Spyder's trunk? I don't have many tools so I would be working with that the Spyder came with and wanted to know before I start the removal process of the Sport Rack and Back Rest.

:lecturef_smilie: Do yourself a big favor, before you start, invest in a basic set of metric socket, star and allen wrenches.

The sport rack is easy to install...I actually was able to do this one and I'm not very good at this stuff.

I also switched out for the comfort seat as the stock was really uncomfortable.

I'm looking for a trunk to put on the sport rack...these usually have backrests, so that solves that problem as well...

If you look around, Corbin has some major issues...esp. for the money people are paying...

Congratrs on the Sprot Rack install... Bravo! As far as a trunk bag. I have to agree with you. The prices that corbin is charging is absolutely ridiculous. I simply will not do it. Believe it or not, I have heard that folks are getting hard bags from J.C. Whitney and having great luck with them! Whether or not they have a back rest built in I do not know and it may be the other end of the extreme but it sure beats getting ripped off! I'm sorry, that is just the way I feel about it. there is no need to charge what Corbin is charging for their stuff. It aint that good! There has to be a better option out there, and if there isn't that would be a great opp. for an enterprising type who can work with those types of materials!
