Hi Guys,

I was so sorry to hear about your run-in with the Yukon in your note today. At least you weren't hurt and are here to vent about red tape. I hope the damage isn't too serious. I'm looking forward to seeing you and Vaugne on Oct. 8th.
Hopefully you'll be back on three wheels by then.

Be safe,

John

Wednesday Update

Surprise! surprise! The 'persons of questionable insurance' provided an insurance care at the time of the accident, but their carrier cannot find a current policy . . . . apparently their policy lapsed last year......:gaah:

This is one of those times when we were really hoping our gut instinct was wrong!

RT is going into the shop this evening (when we drop it off and pick up the RS after DPS & 3,000 service).

Sorry about the accident but glad you weren't hurt!

As for the lovely (*&$#&*^ people who hit you, I hope the Karma bus hits them for failing to keep insurance.

Does this mean you'll now be the new owner of their Yukon? :roflblack: Not having insurance doesn't mean they're not responsible. Of course, they probably don't really own the Yukon - I would guess a bank or GMAC owns it.

Glad you are okay. It looks like there is also plastic coming apart under the vehicle. Definitely have that entire corner + frame and alignment checked. Might be an oppertunity to sub in performance parts instead of replacing it with standard OEM parts if you are thinking about upgrade. Insurance cover the install and price up to the OEM part. You just pay the difference. Strike a deal with the shop and you might just break even.

Vaughn, Is insurance compulsory in their home state? If it is I'd be calling the Police again and letting them know about it... Nail them to the wall and don't give them a second's worth of breaks if they're supposed to be insured!
That having been said; What's the dollar damage amount on your RT, and would a small claims court suit cover it? Go after them for it personally if possible! Get a judgement against them; it'll screw them up for YEARS!

Thursday AM update

Well, the verdict is in . . . . neither of them -- the gal who was driving or the guy who told the cops he was driving -- has a current insurance policy. :chill:

The RT is at the shop today (DPS recall and a closer look for damages behind the panels, etc) but at first look, only the fender mounts were bent . . . and those are less than $50 each. We'll probably live with the ding in the lower panel where the trailer hitch punched it (soooo thankful that I jerked my leg out of the way and my ankle wasn't there!) But they're going to check out everything else just to make sure.

Yes Bob, insurance is compulsory here in Oregon. But what happens (as it seems to be in this case) is the person who doesn't usually carry insurance will buy a policy and make a minimum payment just to get a Proof of Insurance card so they can take it to the DMV to get their drivers license and/or car tag renewal. When they accomplish that, they either cancel the policy or just don't make the next payment. There's no agency follow up if a policy gets cancelled. :wrong:
And you really don't want to get me started on that soapbox. :banghead: :bdh:

And trust me, I am doing a DMV report complete with pictures . . . . and it will be lodged against their both his and her names, his driver's license number (at the next renewal in 2017) and his car tag.

Small claims is always an option, however, as we were told, we could put a lot of time and $$$ into it, but at the end of the day, ya just can't draw blood out of a turnip. I'd rather be ryding than chasing a couple tweekers . . . or tick them off and have to protect ourselves from them and their skuzzy buddies! nojoke For people like that, their lives are their own worst punishment.:barf:

Oh well, we're eagerly waiting for the final word from Ted as to any other damages.

If the vehicle is financed, see if you can research the vin number. A call placed to thier finance company and they will be taking the bus to the bar from now on. Revenge, even in small amounts, is still gratifying......

I got hit a few years back on my bike, total damage and the other driver was 19 with no insurance. They had to make restitution payments to me to cover the cost before they were issued another license. The payments stopped after a year because.......you cant pay when you are in jail for DUI manslaughter.

Try getting a repair done from someone who hit you with no insurance. Never happened to me but I know people who went through it - it's not pretty.

Inspection update

We picked up the RT yesterday after the DPS replacement. (I haven't driven it yet, but Vaughn really likes the way it handles.)

It looks like the bent fender mounts and dent in the lower side panel (from the trailer hitch impact) are the only damage. Our dealer Ted is ordering the fender mounts for us. The mechanic straightened them out pretty well but knowing the stress they took, we both think it's best to replace them.

For now, we're not going to replace the side panel. It's cosmetic . . . . and we'd rather put the $$$$ towards a set of Elkas. :2thumbs:

The final word isn't yet in on the people did the damage, but even though the insurance adjuster can't find a current policy, he's going to pay a visit to both of the addresses and phone numbers they gave us and offer them a bit of friendly advice. :lecturef_smilie: And I am filing a full report with the DMV complete with pictures of BOTH drivers and names of witnesses.

And so, life goes on. Aside from being a pain in the :bdh: we are thankful that it wasn't worse and that we're getting off relatively cheap (probably $100 for the fender mounts). Chalk it up to another lesson in human behaviour :gaah:.

Ryde safe everyone!

Glad to hear you are ok. Some one may have already mentioned this but be sure to check the front wheel bearings on both sides since it was getting slid sideways with the stress being put on the opposite side. Ken krb1945
