We installed a comfort seat in the middle of our trip to the Spyder rally in L.A. in '09. We drove 1400 miles with the old seat, and then 1400 miles back home with the comfort seat.
There is some improvement, but nothing like we expected. After our trip this past summer, which equaled to 8000 miles, she has decided a Russell DayLong is in our future.
Actually, 2 RDL's if Spyder #2 works out like I m hopin'..:2thumbs:

I have no problem with the stock seat and I have road from Miami Fla. to Peoria Illinois and from Lake George Ny. to Peoria each in 2 days and I can't complain about the seat. But I have a hard tail chopper I ride also, so the Spyder is a piece of cake to me and I'm and old man.

Same here. The seat that came with both the RS-S and 14 are pretty good for me. Of course, I have nothing to compare it to, so it could just be that once I park my rear end in a russell It might be a different story! I also have not done super-lomg haul either. The most I've done in one shot was 220 miles. But so far stock is good! They look good too. I like the stitching...
Russell "Day Long" is the way to go!

Started changing out my stock seat with the comfort seat on Saturday, then realized you really need two 1/2 inch wrenches to tighten the locknut that goes on the bolt that holds the seat shock in place so I finished it Sunday in a few minutes once I had all the tools. Total time for the install was about an hour maybe 45 minutes if you don't watch football while changing it out. On the instructions it states that when installing the bolt for the seat latch to screw it in until the distance is 1.039 inches from the plastic on the seat pan to the beginning of the cone-shaped part of the bolt is a good starting point. Well on my '10 if I would have set it at 1.25 - 1.5 inches then I probably would not have had to make any adjustments to the bolt after the seat was installed.
I haven't been able to get out for a ride other than to work but I can tell a difference in the riding position and that the pressure points are different from the stock.
The Spyder takes metric wrenches. The seat takes two 13 mm, as I recall, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, using 1/2" wrenches is a gamble, and could damage the fasteners.
