great mileage...turn your JB down!

I just got back from a 125 mile ride and was very pleased to see that I got about 37 mpg! Yahoo! I had been fiddling with my JB since the second update and I think tuning it down sufficiently did the trick. I didn't record the exact numbers but I really dropped down settings 2 and 4...they seem to be the culprits with the popping while coming out of acceleration, mostly in 4th gear.

I had great performance, crisp acceleration, and no popping (although I have to ask one of the guys I was riding with who was behind me to be sure).

In MD, it's SUPER hot...around 100, with high humidity, so early AM rides are the way to go.

As far as bike temps, the air dam really doesn't do anything for my bike...I was running at 5s with an occasional 4...did it hit 6?...not too sure. It might have once or twice. I stick with my assessment that the air dam is not effective with high humidity areas...this brings up another question...will BRP install the newer fan to help keep the bike cooler? MD certainly meets the criteria of HOT climates...in fact, one could argue that it is hotter here during the summer than out west. I'll take 110 and dry as opposed to 95 with 90% humidity, any day of the week...yuck!

Now to get chores down! Nice to get out early and ride!

JUICE BOX PRO

I just checked my milage and got 34 / gallon so iam happy, no more back fires and popping either, my still play with it a liitle more, seems a little sluggisg at take off and lower rpm's. bot acceptable? JPP was easy to use , when you get it turn it to seeting your running such as pipe no ppie, stock, it comes with 3 or 4 Dyno proven settings, and they say to use # 3 if you are running pipes air filter. it work for me, but i did adjust the low end a very liitle. it is easy, i even did it!

What are the settings you are using? I have mine set to Lamont's original settings & getting about 28mpg. Idle is 1500ish, and has a fair amount of backfiring/popping. Performance on the highway seems good, but it's always at 5/6 bars - on a cool day, it goes from 4 on the highway to 6 at the first stoplight…

I have all the mods - Green filter/Hindle/Ram Air…. on an '09 with under 2K on the clock (still ride my Valk more).

Having said all this, seems like most of the Spyders out there - supposedly set up correctly - are running in the 28mpg range, so are the higher milage units running lean?

I'm sure the JB settings are affected by fuel, I still use premium - milage & performance is markedly better on the higher grade fuel….

When you get a chance post your new JB settings. I'd like to give them a shot. I just changed the Y gaskets and I'm still getting some backfire on the decel in 4th.

Chores, my butt! Things are bad here too (not far away) and the chores can wait!

My mileage is God Awful!! Is the Juicebox easy to operate for the technically challenged?

I doubt the JB would help any with MPG compared to not having a JB installed. The JB can only ADD fuel... it cannot reduce fuel usage below the stock BRP settings.

Not entirely true, if your running too lean or just not balanced out you can burn a lot of excess fuel. As far as the decel popping, if your running a free flow exhaust, intake and orig. JB the 02 modifier takes care of that.

It does this, because the popping is usually an indication of a lean condition caused by the improved flow of the exhaust and intake. That's why I'm a bit confused about the original post saying that backing off of the JB solved the popping issue. Maybe someone can weigh in with a good explanation.

Bean,

I thought the popping was due to too much fuel being introduced...basically, flooding...

I have always found that setting the JB back corrected this, while adding more fuel just made the problem worse.

I think Scotty has a good explanation of this...of course, I cannot remember it!

Good lord, you don't want the original settings because those were good before the first and second update...I think, with each update, that they made the bike run 'less lean'. Therefore, the need to pump the JB all the way up was no longer necessary. With each update, I've dialed the JB back.

I don't have the numbers written down, but I'll check the next time I get out....

Oh, I have a green filter and a hindle...what you have in regards to mods will affect settings as well, being more air needs more fuel...I'm not familiar with the Ram air, but it if puts more air in, you'll likely need your JB turned up a bit more than mine...

Irish,

Let me keep this simple...if I can operate something on a bike, anyone can! The install was a bit challenging on the left side (a loooong needle nose comes in handy).

Firefly alluded to the fact that the JB only adds fuel so it wouldn't help fuel economy...this makes sense, but I've never gotten better mileage than when I got the JB...for some reason, it just helps to tweak your performance, and while doing so, once you're dialed in, the mileage is better.

Now, I'm not softie on the throttle...this morning, the first 35 miles were high speed on the highway....we did some twisties and then it was 75ish on Route 70 all the way home...at 75mph, rpms are at about 5500.

I think the JB is a great addition...however, if you're gonna do it now, perhaps the JB Pro is a better way to go...I'd defer to Evan on this as he knows the products far better than do I.

Either way, I think you'd like the positive changes...they're considerable...
