• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Ryde to Commemorate 9/11

Next year is the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on our nation and I thought it would be great to have a bunch of Spyders commemorate that event. So, I am putting together a trip that will visit all of the 9/11 sites – including Boston where the flights originated – as well as other historic/patriotic sights along the way such as Washington DC, Annapolis MD (Home to the US Naval Academy), Philadelphia PA (the Birthplace of Freedom), West Point NY (Home to the US Military Academy) and Gettysburg Battlefield PA

So far, the total length of the trip is 1323 miles over a 5 day span. I’ll publish a map within the next couple of days along with a ROUGH itinerary.

I know this is plenty early but I’d like to put a lot of time into this and need time to do the research and to contact major news networks to publicize the event once we settle on a good time. I was thinking of possibly late Spring/early Summer next year or actually do it on 9/11 2011.

It would be GREAT if this were a LARGE gathering of Spyders

I’m open to ideas/suggestions

Great idea :2thumbs:
I think to commemorate the 911 attacks you would have at least visit,
The World Trade Center
Flight 93 Marmoreal in PA.
And the Pentagon.

While I applaud the efforts to commemorate the tragedy, turning it into a media event seems strange to me. Kim and I participated in a 9/11 ride in 2002, on the first anniversary, that ended at the Intrepid museum, and some continued on to Ground Zero. I haven't gone on any other 9/11 rides. 3000 innocent, unsuspecting people lost their lives that morning, having a motorcycle party in their memory seemed an awkward way to remember them, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be interested in calling attention to myself for their (and their families) losses.......If there were a charitable beneficiary of the event, I'd probably see it a little differently.......

Bones, I tend to agree with you. Not that I am against a ride to honor the fallen's memory, but I agree that having a charitable component to it would be more appropriate somehow.

I absolutely concur that a charity run would be the way to go but I don't have the time or the desire to get into fund raising. If there is someone (or someones) who would like to take that on, I'd be happy to turn the whole event over to them

I was just trying to organize a fun but rewarding ryde.

By the way, here is a suggested itinerary

:agree:It would be a great opportunity to make it into a charitable ride. As one who campaigns all the time it seems for our little home town food pantry (raised over $200,000 in the last year) I can say that sometimes it's not so much the time as the imagination involved. If someone over that way wanted to look in to it contacting some corporate sponsors (BRP, Corbin, Joe Rocket, FieldSheer, First Gear, Speed & Strenght, ICON, Scorpion, Arai, etc.)you might raise some interest quickly. Could get a commitment of say $100 per rider up to a limit, or a matching fund with riders paying an entry fee, or someone paying so much a mile for the trip, etc. Would be a good project for someone to take on and could take the ride to a whole new level.

I have LOTS of time and I'll do whatever is needed but could use some help. Any volunteers?

Sir, I think this idea may be gaining some traction. The idea concerning corporate sponsorship to aid in raising funds for the charitible component is brilliant! This could turn into something big and really do some good for survivors, the families of the fallen and so forth. My Sister is in town from Baltimore that week, so I'm out. But I'm willing to bet this thing is going to fly. Good luck.
