Corbin Seat and Armrest Pics...Finally

I've posted some of the pics that I took during the installation of my RT seat, backrests and armrests. You can see them at http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/album.php?albumid=954

My wife and I are thrilled with the end result. We took a few days for the trip back to Las Vegas and not once did I give the seat or my back a second thought. She loves her "throne."

In the album you will see three screws on the right hand passenger armrest. This is the location for the cup holder they are working on. Don't have an ETA but the positioning is perfect.

They are finishing the armrest instructions and they should be available soon.

Arm rests

Wow! :2thumbs: The arm rests look fantastic. My wife is about 5' 2" tall. Just wondering if they might be too high for her. How tall is your better half? Is there any issue with her getting on the Spyder? It appears the rests are stationary.

My wife is 5'1" and she said the armrests are perfect. The driver backrest folds forward and flat so it doesn't interfere with climbing on board. You can see the backrest in a flat position if you go to the album pics. Follow the link in the original post.

WOW!

I have to say that is the MOST beautifully designed seat I have ever seen:yikes:. I'm very jealous, but having a RS not RT I'll have to admire from afar. You and Corbin deserve :2thumbs::2thumbs: :bowdown::bowdown::firstplace::clap::clap:, for this design. I hope your ride is as comfortable.

It was custom fitted for me, but not custom designed. Corbin created the seat and they custom fit it to my desired riding position. Which in my case called for the driver position to be moved forward slightly, maybe an inch or two. Look at the picture below and you can see where they added a little foam at the back of the driver seat. I have short arms and moving forward suits me better and gives my wife a little more room.

The backrest post has a spring that works as it is pulled forward and flat against the driver seat. It pulls it part way back into an upright position and then you push it into full upright. The backrest shaft is square and fits into a square post with a screw passing through both at the bottom of the post. When the backrest is pulled all the way down (flat), the screw is accessible. Removing the screw allows the backrest to be removed completely if you choose to ride without. There is a leather tab that folds into place and hides the hole when the backrest is removed.

The backrest is adjustable in two places - one, the vertical angle to get it to fit against your back as desired, and two, the horizontal travel in the channel in which the post sits (haven't figured how to make that adjustment yet; mine is as far forward as it allows). My wife had no problem getting on or off, and the cutout at the base of the backrest give her plenty of legroom. Corbin has other backrests in different shapes that I believe could be interchanged with the base.

Now that version of the Corbin looks fantastic. The only worry I have is weather proofing... I hate sitting in a soggy seat for two weeks until it dries out.

Do we know if the threading and such on this version is "Weather" resistant or not?

RT armrests

Corbin has the new RT seat, backrest, trunk pad and armrest listed on their website. I was looking at them today and they are beautiful. I know what I will be doing this winter. When you look at them take a close look at the stitching design.

No stitching, even that on the stock seat, is weatherproof. If you ride in the rain, I recommend you purchase the raincover with your seat, or make one, like we did recently. In a pinch, black plastic trash bags will do the job.

Ah! Ok.. Thanks!!... I have not once gotten my fanny wet from the RT I have, and it has been in all day downpours... I read here in another thread the Corbin's seem to attract the water much more than most and that was actually the reason for asking...

I will have to figure something out on that more long term... I plan to use mine even during the winter months and having a soggy seat is not high on my like list :yikes:... Maybe I can ask them to at least run a plastic cover on the inside between the padding and the leather when they build it... :thumbup:

Fortunately, the stock RT stitching is not very exposed, and the rain protection is quite good while moving. The worst problems are from seats with stitching in in the dished area. Those eventually get soaked, and wet you back for several days. The BRP comfort seat for the RS has difficulty in this way. Putting plastic over the foam when building the seat seems to do little good, as the stitching penetrates it. It is better, but still can get wet in a soaker. Closed cell foam helps, but may not be the best padding available. I'd just purchase the Corbin rain cover when you get your seat.
