Is it just me? Are farmers irrigation systems annoying to you?

I am really getting tired of the farmers and their arrogance that they have the right to do whatever they damn well please without any regard for others.
I checked with the State Police and they couldn't find any laws prohibiting irrigation from crossing the road. There may not be a law in place but you would think the farmers would show a little courtesy.
To some this may not seem like that big of a deal. But for me it is. There is a six mile stretch of road I travel everyday to work that has nine of these dang things that can reach over the road at any given time. :gaah: I almost forgot. I'm not talking about some country back road (not that it should matter). This is M-51, a main highway.

I ran into some of those about a week ago--- thought it was kind funny--- got just a bit wet--- which actually felt good since it was 90+ out. Although I did have to clean the water spots off my Spyder at my next gas stop..

I think what some are forgetting here is that the farmers could irrigate without all the overspray onto the road. He didn't say they had to stop all irrigation. I don't think that watering a paved road has much to do with putting vegetables on the table.

We actually ran into one of those last weekend. Watched him dust for awhile--- looked like a fun ride to me. Kept going down the road and could see a bit of a residue cloud-- just slowed down a bit to let it dissipate..

Not a big deal... although I did notice I now have a 3rd eyeball growing on the back of my head....:roflblack:

I live in a farming community and grew up on a farm. My grandfather was a farmer and my father and I did some farming on the side. I currently have relatives that are in the farming business. I understand the importance of irrigation but at the same time know that the water from these systems don't have to go into the road.
I have to travel this same road every day twice a day 6 times a week. Trust me, it gets a little old having to dodge the water.
And one thing I didn't mention earlier, some farmers run liquid nitrogen through their irrigation systems. So the next time you run through one of those refreshing sprinklers and you lick the water from your lips..........:thumbup:

On the other hand, the exact same thing irritates me on my daily walks, when peoples' sprinkler systems water the sidewalk, forcing me into the street or catching me unaware. It is actually a bit of a safety issue for a rider, since suddenly getting caught could cause a problem in handling, or an icident from a sudden reaction to the unknown. It is also a waste of water. Don't blame you for complaining. Be glad it was warm weather, I guess. Being drenched and cold would be a real pain.

No need for you to apologize Scotty. I can take a joke and I took your comment in the lighthearted nature it was given.
I was surprised by a couple of comments though. Everybody looks at things differently, but that is what makes our world so interesting. I guess one thing that got lost in all of this is I just wish everyone would show a little more consideration to the people around them. Like the guy mowing his lawn with the chute pointing toward the road and he's throwing sand and gravel and who knows what else at you as you drive by in your $40,000 car:yikesnot that I own one). But that is a whole different thread.

I never shoot my grass into the street or towards a car, bike, mc or pedestrian .... does kinda irk me when I see others do this--- without even thinking about it.

I didn't realize this was on your daily commute---- bummer.

That's exactly why I wanted that 3rd eyeball--- to keep an eye on you--- make sure you're not up to any shenanigans!

I do remember that cropduster going across the road and seeing a bit of a cloud-- which was pretty much gone by the time we hit it.

I would have traded that guy a ride in his plane for a ride on the Spyder....

One of my pet peeves is when I see someone's sprinkler sytem running while it's pouring rain. I realize they are on a very basic timer but it still slightly irks me. :sour:

Yeah. In this electronic age they could easily and cheaply add a rain sensor...or just a gauge that only waters when it needs itand not when it is sufficiently moist...whether due to rain, sprinkling, or overcast weather.
