What about the extended warranty?

I don't normally buy extended warranties but this rig has only been on the market 3 yrs and I'm wondering if some inherent bugs :ani29: will show up?

Has anyone had it and actually used it?

Well since I am keeping my Spyder - I'll be buying the extended warranty (not that I want to). Never thought I'd say that but you can't fix it yourself since it has to be hooked up to BUDS for alot of stuff. And I've read things where if people didn't have an extended warranty, the bill was like $2K! This machine is not trustworthy yet (still too new and too many bugs) to not have any type of warranty on it.

in a word . . . .

. . . . YES.

BRP has one and some dealers also have contracts with other warranty companies. Usually, they can deal on them since ( I am assuming here ) there is a good profit margin on them.

Some dealerships also offer a Service Warranty program - where all costs for standard service and all labor charges are "pre-paid". These do make sense if you put a lot of miles on your Spyder during the term of the contract AND they are a good service department.

In the whole scheme of things, you will never know how good either of these are until you have to use them. My experience has been excellent. All the (standard BRP) warranty work done has been top notch and all the service work has been just as good.

I have about 9 months before I find out ( if something happens ) how the extended warranty works, but for now, I am glad I have it.

In my civilian job, I'm a software quality analyst. Never implement v1.0 of anything. I have a 2009 RS, which is identical to the 2008. It's also the reason I have 5 year warranty.

Get the BEST warranty...no question about it...don't even consider...just get it! You'll regret it if you don't...

Again Crusher, I totally agree with you. :agree: I got the 5 year as well. This thing is too buggy to trust just yet.

Yupster...about $1000 for piece of mind is nice...think about how many problems can well exceed this should we have a problem and not have the warranty...BEST is the way to go!

Which warranty are you speaking of??? :dontknow: The BRP warranty???

Yes. We were offered the BRP warranty. It was actually discounted off of the "list" price. I've seen some Yamaha dealers, discount their ESP, so I guess there's wiggle room built in most of these plans.

12mos $650
24mos $830
36mos $930

Also offered "BEST Plus" at discount. I talked to a guy in service and he said that other than a few problems in the first year, they don't see many problems with these things. This is a multi-brand dealership that we've dealt with many times over the years, with zero problems. I don't have any reason to not believe them.

I was also told that the BRP ups the price of the extended warranty after 60 days, so we have some time to think about it.

I wasn't offered a maintenance plan.. and don't feel I need one. I'm not afraid to turn a wrench.

warranty

My dealer never offered the BEST, he did give me one from Sheffield bank that covered first 2 services, tires, and extended warranty. It will pretty much pay for itself just from the cost of the 2 services.

Any opinions on what is better...BEST or outside warranties?:spyder2:

Each to their own...

Just my $.02......

I found from horror stories of others... To only purchase extended warranties from two camps...

  1. The manufacturer of the said vehicle
  2. A company that is well known and has been selling the extended warranty for at least ten years (To clarify this one... If you buy a used Chevy on a Ford lot... They sell you their Ford Warranty or a 3rd party at a cheaper option, not including negotiations of course, always go with the Ford in this case).
Simply put. Hundreds of "So called" extended warranty companies have gotten the money and run (No longer in business). Or simply make what should be a simple pay a deductible and get your car fixed, nearly a painful process.

We chose to get the BEST because this is the bikes first year in production, and we had been uneducated in the expense and the price fluctuations in the servicing of our Spyder. Knowing what I know now... I would not hesitate to get the BEST PLUS for the normal service needs every 6000 miles. This is also because we plan to use our Spyder as a daily commuter and know the mileage will rack up faster than the normal "Fair-weather" ryder might.

Anyway, I hope that helps... All you have to do to see frustrated extended warranty folks (Some true others exaggerated of course) is google it. (Auto specific)

Get the BEST warranty...don't tinker around with '3rd party' warranties. Look, everyone wants to save a buck here or there...it only matters when you have a problem. The BEST warranty is by BRP for BRP...enough said...

:agree:

Don't mess with ANY other warranty than the BEST which is promoted/offered by BRP!!!

There have been cases of people buying different warranties only to have the dealer go out of business and then they are stuck without the ability to get things covered under that warranty at other dealers.

The BEST is well worth it IMO----you can get 5 total years of coverage from date of purchase--- well worth $900 !

B.E.S.T. Warranty in FL??

My dealer and BRP district sales manager Stephane Bertrand both told me personally that the BRP BEST warranty is no longer available in Florida. I tried to buy it and it can't be done. It was being sold in FL, however, as I recall, after March 20th 2010, no can do.. So, my dealer, SunSports Cycle in Ft. Myers FL, is selling (Interstate National Dealer Services Of Florida, Inc.) Looks good on paper. Since our RT's are rather new I haven't had to use them YET!!! Len

The BEST is no longer available in Florida, due to their insurance regulations. It is still available in the remainder of the US.

Well that's a bite! I went BEST also; I figured get the one from BRP. I too have heard bad things regsrding third party covereages...

Aren't they interchangeable?

There's an 08 here with a blown motor which is being rebuilt. Ordered a crank figuring they were all the same and it don't fit. Had to order 08 specific. There was a change somewhere down the line.

warranty regardless.

I recently took out an extended warranty. They way I see it, even if I don't keep my spyder, the warranty will be a selling tool. If I were in the market for a spyder and were offered the choice of one with a warranty or one without, I'd take the one with the warranty. :D
