My friend Dave at Custom Dynamics finally got his new 09 Phantom SM5 Spyder dropped off yesterday.
He bought it as a new leftover online from a dealer in KS.
Well, so far the things they DID NOT EVEN SET UP ON THE PDI are really scarey. :yikes:
He went out for his first ride last night, and of course his bike overheated went right into LIMP MODE! :yikes::yikes:
He Limped it back home, called me, and we started looking for the cause.
Turns out the cooling fan was NOT EVEN PLUGGED IN! :yikes::yikes::yikes:
He also told me that his air temp gauge was reading 125 degrees too. :dontknow:
Well it's hot in NC this time of year, but not 125 for sure, Again the dealer did not put the air temp sensor in place and it was right near the engine reading that heated air.
So, then after finding these two things, we started going over the machine.
We then found THERE WAS NOT ONE DROP OF COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW TANK! :yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:
He did not have a boil over on his ride, so it is not that he lost it when in limp mode.
He then checked the air pressure in the tires and found it was way low and not set on all 3 tires.
I then had him check the drive belt, and it was as tight as a drum! Which is a no brainer that it was not reset to the new spec before the dealer shipped it ether.

This dealer supposedly is one of the biggest dealers in the Mid West, or so they told him? :dontknow:
If this is the kind of PDI service they do, I do not know how they stay in business? :dontknow:
My real thought is, they knew they would never have to see this machine again, or deal face to face with Dave. They just put a battery in it and shipped it without doing the PDI. :yikes:
If dealers continue to deliver bikes like this, it's not hard to understand why some of these guys are going out of business. :agree:
Today we'll go over over the bike some more, I hope the rest is OK?
