• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Aging bikers at greater risk of injury, death

To add some humor into this:

  • 22 percent of married men have strayed at least once during their married lives.
    • Single vehicle motorcycle crashes account for about 45 percent of all motorcyclist fatalities (truth)
  • Younger people are more likely candidates; in fact, younger women are as likely as younger men to be unfaithful.
    • Older men are more likely to be injured in a motorcycle crash (truth)
  • 70 percent of married women and 54 percent of married men did not know of their spouses' extramarital activity.
    • 100% of married couple know about motorcycle usage (*)
  • 90 percent of Americans believe adultery is morally wrong.
    • 90% of American Women dislike husbands purchasing motorcycle (*)
  • 17 percent of divorces in the United States are caused by infidelity.
    • 17% of divorces are caused by men spending too much time with motorcycle (*)
  • Only 46% of men believe that online affairs are adultery. DivorceMag
    • 46% of men think buying a motorcycle leads to buying bigger motorcycles (*)
  • Affairs affect one of every 2.7 couples, according to counselor Janis Abrahms Spring, author of After the Affair,as reported by the Washington Post on March 30, 1999. Ten percent of extramarital affairs last one day, 10 percent last more than one day but less than a month, 50 percent last more than a month but less than a year, but 40 percent last two or more years. Few extramarital affairs last more than four years.
    • 40% of first bikes purchased are kept more than 2 years(*)
  • A lesser known fact is that those who divorce rarely marry the person with whom they are having the affair. For example, Dr. Jan Halper’s study of successful men (executives, entrepreneurs, professionals) found that very few men who have affairs divorce their wife and marry their lovers. Only 3 percent of the 4,100 successful men surveyed eventually married their lovers.
    • I am running out of stats to make up (*)
  • Evidence proves there is a high correlation between on-line infidelity and subsequent real-time sexual affairs.
    • Evidence proves buying a motorcycle will cost you more than you want (*)
  • The use of protection is necessary
    • The use of protection is necessary
  • The fact is that human beings are NOT monogamous by nature. That means they cheat.
    • Humans also get bored on four wheels. That means they seek the thrill of motorcycles

The Problem?

Aging bikers at greater risk of injury, death
As the number of baby boomers taking to the road on motorbikes has risen, so has the average age of motorcyclists involved in crashes, a U.S. study says.

As an aging biker (58 years old with 43+years of continued riding pleasure) I think I have an idea of what the problem is . . . . . vanity! These cats are so busy checking out how they look on their new cruiser (watch them as they pass in front of a store window) that they fail to notice that traffic is no longer moving. Another issue is the 'top gun fly over lane change' . . . . . . even clipping one of the modern jelly bean car bumpers is enough to cause you to eat pavement. . . . . I think this is proof of 'natural selection' . . . or disproves 'evolution' . . . . . . this is just my thoughts . . Vaughn

Personally, I'm glad to hear that a lot more 'mature' people are out and about, doing the things they love to do. I work with the 'mature' population and have seen many of them -- upon reaching a certain age, decide they are too old and give up the things they have been enjoying all their lives. Too often, at that point, they usually sit down and begin to die.

Granted, given physical and mental limitations that might come with 'maturity' (especially relating to driving skills), there may come a time when it is time to slow down or quit . . . . but until that time comes.... life is for living. So, ryde on!

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'WOW, what a ride!'"

As I passed a few bars on my 70 mile cruise this afternoon I noticed many bikers in the bars. No Spyders though? I can,t imagine they just stop for ONE beer?:dontknow:

Anyway I researched Motorcycle deaths and Drinking , speeding and night driving brought the Greatest Fatalities.:yikes:

Of course older people will be hurt more and die more, their bodies aren't as strong as they used to be(osteoporosis being a big one) and thier immunity/body healing abilty is much less than when they were younger. Same as when they fall and break a bone any other way, it takes a lot longer and a lot of times it requires a joint replacement surgery. Old enough and it can put them on the death bed.

Maybe they died of old age BEFORE the accident! :roflblack:

There is an old saying around the crowd I used to hang with . . .

"Ain't no such thing as A beer!"

Could be, lol, a lot of the older people that fall and break their hip may actually have broke their hip and then fall. The femur snaps off near the top where the joint is and the person of course falls down, but thinks they tripped or whatever and thinks that broke the bone.

Awright Whipperschnappers! Us geezers aint any different than youse guys. We are just a little slower at some things. Personally, they will have to pry my hand off the throttle before I am ready to quit riding.

Who says what's old?

This thread made me think of these lines from the book "Catch 22":

They're burying the kid that got killed in my plane.

- What happened to him?
- He got killed.

- What?
- I said he got killed.

I'm sorry.

- He was your friend?
- Maybe. I don't know.

- He was very old.
- But he was a boy.

He died.
You don't get any older than that.
