• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Update since getting it back

Finally got to ride today. After getting it back from the shop after 15 weeks. I have to say that it rode fairly well, my only concern with it was it felt as if I have no power steering at all. My arms and shoulders have never been soo tired after riding as they do today. Very glad I didn't get a sticking in the steering but I am wondering if the dps is working at all. I found a vacant lot and rode around at around 20mph or so and it felt just like it does when turning the wheels while setting in my barn with it off. I will continue to ride it. Actually the fun factor out weighs my body pains. Curious as to if it stayed in the shop soo long to figure a way to get the code to not show up and the dps to not be operable. Just my opinion after riding, thought I would share. Like I said, I will continue to ride it believeing another update will be coming in the future.

Mine wasn't test rode after the last dps was installed before they hauled it back to me. All the dealer was looking for the days after the dps install was cranking it periodically to see if the code showed, so they didn't know how it rode.

That does not sound "right". After my DPS was replaced, the steering felt "different", but nothing like you are describing.

As far as the shop not testing it, :hun:!!!!!!!!!!!

In your place, I would be contacting Carlo and looking for another service shop. I am glad you are getting some rides in, but I don't think this is over for you yet. :sour:

Maybe the tires are low from sitting?

First thing I checked before pulling out of the yard, they were down but I filled them. 17 front-27/28 rear.

:2thumbs: to getting to ride!!

I'll probably call him but since I can ride it, I don't see the need in it going to set for more time.

Try riding at a set speed in a parking lot-- say 20 mph and test the steering. Then do the same thing--- but hit the kill switch and see how it steers.

You should notice a difference.

:2thumbs:Thanks Firefly I will try that when I go back out tomorrow.

You don't have power steering working. I have had it both ways and if you have power steering you know it.

Now not having power steering is not such a bad thing. You may be better, safer and getting a better work out without it.

I got to ride mine today too since the update and mine feels a lot like you describe. It didn't wear me out but it does feel like the power steering is cut way back from what I remember. I was able to ride the RT too and it is not as hard to steer as my RS. I'm good with it if that's the way it suppose to be now but who's to say? :dontknow:

Glad to hear you finally got it back from the shop, and are able to get some ryding time in. Keep us posted on anything else you may find out about your steering.

Glad you have your Spyder back, and I hope it is working in a way that is safe, at least. Not so good about your Dealer not test riding :(.

Ride Safe and yes, please keep us posted.
Cheers.

I definately will.

Maybe it is supposed to be that way, I am going to do the shutoff while riding to see if I can see any difference. But since it wasn't trying to throw me off the side of the road, I will ride it.

Lamont: about what I PMed you about, it is fine, eyes were playing tricks on me.

This may be encouraging news. It's something different.

When I got mine back from the dealer it didn't feel stiffer, it felt less stiff - almost a "floaty" feeling - hard to describe. Before the new dps it felt fine - wasn't too stiff, so I think I did have power steering or else I would have been tired and sore but when I rode it afterwards there was like no effort needed at all - is this normal?

Nancy's feels just the opposite, after the recall update alone (no new DPS). Steers much easier at low speeds.

Well I did a shutoff at around 30mph, to me it felt the same as it did when running. If there was a difference it was a very slight difference. I will continue to ride until I hear that there is something else to do. Other than that it rides very good, no twitching. Rode it to church this morning and was going to lock the steering after I shutoff, not happening, wouldn't budge, I didn't bother cranking it back up to see if it would then move(was running late already). If I come across anything else out of the ordinary while riding I'll let you all know. But in the mean time I am going to just try to have fun ridin!

I've heard a few people stay the PS doesn't seem to assist while sitting still--- I thought I heard this is how the RT is now?

Sure it probably doesn't which is fine, chances are if you are wanting to turn you might be moving, right? It will turn on grass just not pavement, less friction comes into play I suppose.

Sure sounds like a non-functional DPS. I would report it to my dealer, anyway, even if I didn't take it in yet. They need to know that their recent "fix" did not work. There will never be a cure if nobody brings in their failed units.

Had my power steering cut off twice while standing still, Both times i was pulling too much juice out of the battery at idle, Revved it up a little the power steering came on. Ive learned to to shut some power if I'm going to idle for a while. Also with the engine off it's almost impossible to turn the bars. If you want to lock the bars leave the engine running then turn them all the way.
