• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Members with facilities for travelers

In the absence of a Rider Map, maybe we can just post here if we have some overnight and repair facilities for members who are doing long distance touring. A SEPARATE forum would be ideal, if that is possible, but in the meantime, we could use this maybe?

My wife and I are located in Northern Utah in a town called Oakley. We have 2 guest bedrooms and a garage full of tools, lifts, etc should a traveler wish to take advantage of that.

DM me with your phone number and we can discuss.

Can't get there from here, as the saying goes. Been close a few times travel on I-80. Last time was Sept 2015. We bought a new RAM truck from John Elway in Greeley, Co. Left the dealership at 12:30 in the afternoon on a Monday and drove to Evanston, Wy 407 miles. Next day was 660 miles to Kennewich, Wa. Wednesday was 287 miles and I walked into the house at 12:30 in the afternoon. 48 hours, with two motel receipts, and 1330+ miles. Boy, did we learn a lot about the new 3500 RAM SRW SB truck in a short timeframe.

I baby sat John in the 1950's in Port Angeles, Wa. His dad lived in my grandparents boarding house when he first came to PA to be a coach at the high school. They became family friends over the years.

I know that on this forum (before this current version) there was a list of people who could help if one of us needed help with their Spyders (if they broke down) they had tools, and trailers if needed.

Would someone else chime in on my post about this?

That's what I remember too.

Well, does anybody on this Forum want to head this up?

See post #1 for more information.
I did. I started this thread. See post#1. Now, I'm waiting for people to chime in with how, using the existing forum structure, we could do that.

It would be ideal if the webmaster could start a dedicated sub-forum for that purpose, but in the absence of that, perhaps we can repurpose this subforum. For that to work, this subforum needs to present its feed in chronological order, like other subforums do and/or allow some filtering so it presents only "utah", for instance.

Those are just my thoughts on the topic. I'm hoping others with more technical knowledge or experience with this forum can chime in, but I also welcome ideas for what type of information could be helpful for someone planning a trip.

In a world where everyone is friendly and helpful and we don't have all these crazy people running around who want to hurt people for no reason, this would be a good idea.

Unfortunately, we don't live in a world like this and strangers cannot be trusted. I don't know what the legal ramifications would be if the owner of Spyderlovers set up something like this on their site and, heaven forbid, someone got hurt, or worse, because of it.

Just because someone rides what you ride doesn't mean that they can be trusted.

Again, it's a good idea but at the same time, not.

I think, if memory serves me, Deanna, that it was intended for the Spyder Ryder Map (what is now this subforum) to serve that purpose.

Well, I understand your concern, but isn't that the whole point of this forum, to become less of strangers and more comfortable with each other? I'm not a legal eagle/beagle, but I don't see how SpyderLovers would be any more exposed liability-wise than presently, if for instance one member took the advice of another member to underinflate a car tire and the tire failed because of it.

You raise a good point, though, and something to be mindful of as we explore this possibility. Thanks for contributing.

As I said, there are people out there who have nothing better to do than to figure out ways to hurt others. Why? Who the heck knows!

These miscreants can befriend anyone online and do whatever it is that they want to do, if you enable them that is.

I'm sure that if you think about it a little more, you'll see the difference between someone offering you advice on airing up your tires vs having a stranger in your home.

We live in a litigious society, I'm sure that you've noticed this, and if someone else can be blamed for someone else's bad judgment, then they will be and the lawyers love this stuff.

I agree. If we are to do this sharing of resources, it needs to be done in such a way that personal safety of those participating is a priority.

My thoughts on this are evolving, but I think what I envisioned is a sub-forum where a member could say, for instance

"I have a place in Oakley, Utah, near I-80, 40 miles east of Salt Lake City with a garage and tools, and possibly overnight accommodations for through travelers. Interested members with at least 2 years of active participation on this forum DM me with your phone number and we can discuss."

What do you think, @Albec ?

Well, let this topic mellow a little bit more.
We definitely need more Spyder Forum Members
to give their own thoughts.

As I have already posted, I believe this is the good
idea. Now we wait and see what happens. (y)
