Question for experienced Spyder owners - New F3 vs Used?

My wife recently got her endorsement and is really excited to get a Spyder. She is thinking the F3 is the best fit for her. I have located a 2017 with about 6k miles locally for $13,000. I have also located a brand new 2025 F3 for a discounted $22,000. Both machines are similarly equipped. Any advice regarding going the used route versus the brand new is appreciated.

6K miles for a 2017 is hardly anything... provided it has a good service record. Look to make sure the brake fluid has been flushed regularly (ideally every couple of years). If not, check the master cylinder for corrosion. Fuel filter location is extremely poor on the F3's... right up under the fuel tank cover where there's not much ventilation and the fuel lines have to make some tight bends, so some stress-cracking is not uncommon. My advice... re-route the fuel lines to a nicer layout, and replace & re-locate the fuel filter to make it easier to replace next time. Check the tyres, as they are likely the original ones, & if so, should be replaced with decent car tyres (search this forum about that) as they'll be 9 years old. Otherwise, just check the overall condition & compare it to the new one.

The price for the 2017 sounds to me a bit high compared to newer models that I have seen for sale. There are some deals out there with some owners buying newer bikes and putting all sorts of extras on, then losing interest so they sell just to get rid of it.

I see nothing wrong with a used F3 if it has been properly maintained. $13,000 might be too high if it is a base model F3 or F3-S. If it is an F3-T or LTD I think $13,000 would be fair. I would encourage you to look at maintenance records if available and also have the oil, brake fluid, and coolant changed if they are the original. If the tires are original they should be replaced too. And go with auto tires. I have a 2020 F3 LTD and love it!!

I have the opposite opinion. If you can afford the new bike and it has all of the features you want, it has warranty. With the older bike, you won’t get that. And you don’t know how long it has been sitting aging all of the seals and other rubber parts that could be needing replacement. That is especially true if it hasn’t been ridden much. Just my two cents.

Since as of this writing, BRP has confirmed that they are not sending any Spyders and Canyons to the US market, I'd fully expect used bike prices to start climbing very soon.

I am of the belief to go with used and save the extra coin. The price you stated seems a little high. There are plenty of F3S spyders in the $10-11k range. Even saw a 2018 F3S with pretty good milage for $8k. Spyder and bike prices are as cheap as I have ever seen, but that could change with the tarriffs and bans that are going on. My wife wants to sell her 2016 F3L special series. But I keep telling her that the prices are too cheap and she might as well hold onto it.

I'll offer another reason to buy USED.
She is a new rider and has no experience yet. Most newbies need to learn what they like and dislike which doesn't take long. If you buy used, you can unload it for minimum loss and then buy the NEW dream bike.

Admittedly, there's no F3's For Sale in our 'For Sale by Owner' section at the moment, but the 2020+ RT's are much closer to the F3's in their riding position than the earlier versions, and there juuust might be something in there that takes her fancy?! Have you checked 'em out?!? (y)

Nothing wrong with used Spyders. Save a lot of money. I would recommend that whatever you buy used, it is to have a good mechanic go over the whole thing and let you know what maintenance is needed and/or repairs required.
You will enjoy a good used bike just as much as a new one, but have money to add all the perks you want.

I'm riding a 2017 F3-T that I purchased used last Fall (November 2025) with just over 5000 miles. Immediately upon purchase, I put 3 car tires on it, and a BajaRon Sway Bar. This season (April 2026 thru now), I've added 8000 trouble free miles of fun. Don't be afraid of going the used route.

Well, I've had used and I've had new... a "used" 2018 F3T with only 3,600 miles on it purchased November 2019 and sold July 2024 with 80,000 almost trouble free miles. I mean, hey, the front sprocket was only replaced 4 times, but it never left me stranded anywhere. I had the service records when I purchased it and it had some sweet upgrades. My "new" Spyder is my current one, a 2023 F3L, SE6, purchased brand new in April 2024. I now have 52,000 miles on it and it has left me stranded... the front sprocket stripped. Other things have gone wrong too, most recently, the left front wheel bearing went bad. The wheel was wiggling and jarred my turn signal loose along with brake failure/squishy brakes, all because of the wheel bearing. The price of the 2017 sounds a bit high and I think the price of the 2025 doesn't sound bad, plus you get the two year warranty with the 2025. Lots of good advice on here from everyone. Best wishes with whatever you both decide!

Back in 2020 when I was shopping for a Spyder, a new F3 was 20K and people were asking 18K for low mileage used. The relatively small difference in price led me to buy a new one. But today there seems to be a lot more used Spyders available with a huge price gap. Knowing what I know about the bikes now, I'd recommend buying a used one. There is really nothing earth shattering better on the newer F3 models other than changes in the display.

I have bought three used 2018 RTL, all with low miles. First one in fall on 2020, second Jan 2024, and third one Nov 2025. First one was sold last year after putting about 20K miles on it. All got fresh car tires right away, and HD sway bars, LED head and rear turn signal blubs. All got the sprocket and transmission output shaft recalls. All have been great.

Were I in the position to replace my Spyder, which I'm not because mine still has a lot of miles left on it as I head to 150K, I would hunt for a low mileage 2018 RT. I know there are probably many 2020 and later MY Spyder owners who've had no problems with their new roadsters, but I'm just not enthralled with the new electronic display stuff. I always remember, Murphy was an optimist.

2018 and 2019 RT's are two year change that was very similar except of the wheels and colors available. Both have the full digital display which carried over for a few years of the 2020+ RTs, which I like better than the earlier one, which was what my in-law had on his 2014 RT, so I have a bit of experience with that display/analog gauges that we removed. I really like the 2019 chrome wheels, but could not find one to buy. Had a deal going on Asphalt one last year, until the seller backed out. Also the 2019 would all have the display firmware up to show distance to empty on the left center of the display, where the 2018's needed an update to show that.
