Glo-Ryders NOT legal in Maryland...

I too live in MD, and it wouldn't keep me from getting them. I like them, but there are a ton of other things I am trying to right now. I do have green LED's which are legal, and I couldnt see getting pulled over for the Glo-Ryders.

I like your green lights but I'm not sure how visible they are from the side?? What lights are those anyway?

I'm tempted to try the glo-ryders, but since this is a newer law, the cops might be aware of it...then again, they might not care too much as it is not offensive to anyone else on the road...they do make the bike more noticeable...that's for sure....

I have them under the body too, and will eventually put more on. I had another rider come up behind me and tell me how much he really liked them because they were very visible.

Lights on wheels are illegal. See a summary of the law below noting the part in red:

22-221.(l). Motorcycle Illumination

Motorcycles may be equipped with auxiliary illumination to make the motorcycle more conspicuous and help protect the operator. Lighting may include:

1. Standard bulb running lights; or
2. Light-emitting diode pods and strips;
3. Blue dot illumination:
a. Not to exceed 3/4 of an inch in diameter; and
b. May be located only on the rear as part of, or adjacent to the brake light.

Lighting shall be:
1. Non-blinking;
2. Non-flashing;
3. Non-oscillating; and
4. Directed toward the engine and drive train.

Lighting may not:
1. Be attached to the wheels; or
2. Emit a red, or blue light.

There's a reason everyone calls my state the socialist republic of Maryland...we are falling off the cliff like California! Our governor is a complete idiot and is chasing out businesses...taxing the heck out of us...

Question: Do Glo-Ryders actually attach to the wheel or to the axle that turns the wheel? The law says nothing against putting it on the axle...(how far am I reaching with this, eh?)

Since you remove the stock cap from the center of the wheel, and replace it with the Glo-Ryder unit, I would vote for it is mounted to the axle as well. :2thumbs:

I care about getting pulled but have asked popo's from NC/TN and SC and they have all stated, if I get pulled, it is because the guy is in a bad mood. This is what I have so far..just a sneak peak, project not done yet. There are lots of things that may be against the law, and nobody here can say they follow everyone, just depends on how much it is enforced I guess.
The pics here are from a couple of weeks ago so I am not done just yet and have not taken since putting on the GloRyders, been too dang cold out.
So far, not a problem from anyone. The GloRyders do not shine out at all and most of the time, I am leaning over to see if they are even on because I can't tell as I am riding.

those don't look like glo ryders as they are inside the body of the bike, not on the outside...I'm missing something with what you wrote...

They mount to the hub of the wheel, itself. Same place the axle (spindle) attaches, but not in contact with the axle. They also rotate with the wheel. Better to plead ignorance, than to have an argument that is full of holes.

They are waterproof and run on 3x AAA batteries (100 hours).
3 white bright white LED's that stay on and don't plink.
Silicone housing
Easy push on / off
Adhesive back with velcro. I switch it to an industrial superlock plastic velco I picked up at Radio Shack.
They only cost $7.99 per light and are the same color silver as the Spyder alloy wheels. They also rotate with the axle, and are a perfect fit on my Spyders wheel, like they were custom made. I have them in the fronts and back axle too.
And legal!!!
The guys I ride with that are on 2 wheelers love them, and wish they could some how attach them to their bikes.

But you can my son, come to the dark side.
Just purchase a sheet of yellow acetate at Pep Boys for headlights, cut out a circle and but it over the clear housing of the LED's to make them YELLW... fellow!

I've done some other cosmetic mods to my Spyder but a don't no how to post them... you'll love the front of my Spyder.

I also used a Sylvania Dot-It Swivel for my trunk light.
LED directional tap Light,
360 degress of bright spot light... great for contacting UFO's and illegal aliens.

Go to CustomDynamics and they can hook you up. I have been working with them over the past month or so (I am slow I know) to get some kits together for everyone from just a little to alot. Right now, I have about 250 LED on there right now with I think another 200 left to put on. The "18" they call them are great. Very flat and can be placed anywhere...more to come on that one. Give the guys at CustomDynamics a call, they have every light you can imgaine. Not sure what it will look like, let me know I am sure I can put something on and take some pictures for ya. Sorry, all I have are blue..big UK fan.

It's amazing how states can pass laws regulating the color of lights on privately owned vehicles while many are in violation of federal law when it comes to using blue lights on emergency vehicles. The only law enforcement agency authorized to use blue lights is the United States Coast Guard. Police and other emergency vehicles can use red, white or amber lights but not blue.

In Jersey blue lights are legal on private vehicles only if your a member of a Vol. fire/first aid squad ,
And = ONLY WITH A PERMIT SIGNED BY THE MAYOR OF THE TOWN THE SQUAD IS IN.
