• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

UK Spec 2016 RTL - Is there any way to keep Low Beam on with the High Beam lights?

I was wondering, is there any way I can have my low beam lights stay on with the high beams? It's a UK spec 2016 RTL.

I've seen the French video on youtube, but that's for an RS I believe, so I'm not sure if that would work on mine. I've heard of a link wire on the relay, but no actual description of how to do that, so I thought I would ask all you lovely people on here.

Even if you find the way to jump the relays, I would think you'd want to put a switch in there somewhere so you could drop your lights, so people won't get blasted with your headlights. Good Luck!

Yeah, I fully understand that. I was after the low beams to stay on with the mains when I switch the mains on.

It should be a simple mod, but I'd only do it if you're running LED lights.
This mod results in the ground lead carrying twice it's normal current, as it's shared between the low and high filaments, and will often burn the contacts in the connector, or the wire itself.
With LED lights, the current is much lower and it would likely not be an issue.

LOL. Just wondering how the Mods let you get away with that user name.

Anyway - we’re talking about a European spec RT. It doesn’t use either a shutter, or a dual filament bulb for the switch between Hi and Lo beams. What we call Fog Lights - which is an accessory and controlled by a dedicated switch - is what they have as Low Beam Headlights. They are controlled by the operation of the Lo Beam relay. Our main headlamps, which are on all the time, are what they have as the Hi beam headlamps. They go on and off with the operation of the Hi Beam Relay.

When we in North America switch between Lo and Hi Beams, the Main Relay changes state. The Hi Beam Relay energizes and opens the shutter. The Lo Beam Relay remains energized because of that jumper, (circled), and thus the main headlamp remains on all the time. We’re talking RT, not F3. In the European version, the jumper is removed. The Lo Beams (fog lights) are on for Lo Beam operation. When Hi Beams are called for, the Main Relay changes state, the Lo Relay drops out, the Hi Relay picks up. The Lo Beam Lamps (fog lights) go off and the upper main headlamps come on.

If we in North America have the fog lights installed, they are operated by an independent switch and are not affected by Hi/Lo beam switching.

What you need to do is reinstall that jumper (circled) - or an electrical equivalent - that we have on the North America version. That will keep your Lo Beam Relay energized all the time, and thus keep your Low Beams on all the time. Completely separate lamps and grounds from your Hi Beam lamps. No problem with any of that at all. The power distribution diagram shows that it is in the Right Side Fuse Box. I’ve never seen it, nor do I know where it might be. But assuming that you must have inspections and such over there, you might want to do the electrical equivalent of that and run it through a switch on the console, so that you can defeat it, and not get a violation.

Or, you could simply get in there and start cutting wires, and wire them up like we have here with their own switch. But again, might open you up to a violation.

BTW - by 2016, the RS and ST Spyders were the same as the RT. So, that French video that you saw, if it was a close year to yours, might work for you. I could not find it. Good Luck.
