• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Found these after removing LH deflector panel - anyone know how/where these are placed?

Hi all, 2008 GS here, took off the LH deflector panel and when I went to clean up I found these 2 fasteners with square holes in them. My guess is they are some kind of retainer for the hex bolts, but not sure where to place them. The holes in the frame are round and threaded. Anyone know how these are placed in there? Thank you! They are not shown on the parts breakdown, so no help there.

Those do not appear to be what you might expect where a carriage bolt type head is used. They look more like they are for the same purpose as the star washers, to prevent the bolts from backing out. When the flanged bolt heads tighten down on the washers, the square bent part is flattened back out and bites into the bolt flange to help prevent backing out. If that is their purpose, they would go right against the bolt flanges.

You may be able to clean the bolt flanges up real good and see where the bent up washers left marks on them.

The two bolts are number 22, I would say they go up under the piece but the but the two washer looking parts look like some type of trim ring of sorts not, not shown in the picture! You don't recall where they fell out of? If they belonged together, they would show on that schematic I would think. They look like a gromet of some kind.

Thank you! Yes, I've seen 'locking washers' similar to this before in my years of machine maintenance, but the strange thing is, these things look pristine clean, and the ears do not appear to be bent on them... the picture shows them just as I found them on the floor! Looking at the frame 'dirt/grease marks' they don't seem to have been there, since the washer head OD is bigger than the bolt head. Hence, my confusion. I cleaned up the bolts, no real sign of embedded ear marks. The indent in the panel fits the diameter of the flange. I can't imagine where else these came from, I only swept up a small area.

Yes, thank you Mike. I only think they came from this because I only cleaned up a small area of my work area and found them in the debris. But I cannot find anyplace they really seem to fit on this assembly, and they are pristine clean, whereas the bolt are rather grimy and dirty looking. And, like you mention, no where on the schematic are they shown. I apologize to all, I must have somehow mixed some other trash into my sweep up. Thank you for your time and input!

I hear ya! I have been looking and racking my brain trying to remember what all I was working on before this, or during this while I am waiting on parts! You know, you never just have one project going on... I have yet to find the source of these parts tho. Apparently they are just 'extra'.
