• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Posting Pictures from your hard drive on this board

First off there is some confusion as to where to load the pictures to get them to show up in your post.

Avatar- This is the picture on the left that is under your username. This is NOT your profile picture. I know it should be but that's the way they have it laid out and there's nothing I can do to change that.

Profile Picture- This is the picture that shows up on the left when someone clicks on your name. Many folks load a profile pic and wonder why it's not showing up in their post, it won't, the only two pictures that will show up in your post is your Avatar and your SIG pic.

Sig or Signature Pic- This is the picture that is below your post. You can have more than one sig pic but that's a whole new deal. I'll try and put another video together on how to do that. Your sig pic shouldn't be too big as it will show up on every post you make. If you upload a sig pic it will resize it for you to the size we have set here. If you link it to a pic on Photobucket or something like that make sure it's resized so it doesn't take up the whole page.

One of the main problems people have when loading pictures is the file they are trying to load is too big. If you take it right off your camera it's going to be way to big for the message board software to resize for you. If you don't have software to resize your pictures there is a great site for doing that. Go to http://www.shrinkpictures.com and follow the directions there.

Here's a little video that should help you in loading pics on this board. If you go full screen it will be easier to see what's going on.

How to load more than one picture at a time

Well, as good as it is, that post is above from Lamonster ^^ is largely not applicable any more, cos we no longer run on that vB platform, so here I'm looking at adding a pic via the 'Attach Files' button below the text field of a new post... Altho a big point to take from that ^ is that you SHOULDN'T LOAD FULL SIZED PICTURES!!

Testing 'Attach Files' to load pics/images on the new Forum platform/format:

Thumbnail - once posted, you can click on it to enlarge the thumbnail:

If your pic is anything much bigger than this ^ after you post, or if it has the word 'Attachment' above it, then you haven't finished the job and inserted it as a thumbnail!!

Full size - this one is already scaled down so that it doesn't blow out the page on my device, but if you try to upload full sized pics, even if they look like this on YOUR screen, they can still be WAAAYYY too big for some smaller screens &/or phones - so it's DEFINITELY NOT the preferred option!

Please, only attach pics as Thumbnails! (y)

Keeps saying file too large

Read the first post in the Sticky for directions on how to upload, attach, and then insert your pics as thumbnails; and I think it's about Post# 17 for reducing the size of your original image file.

Keeps saying file too large
You need to reduce the size of the picture. The forum software does not accept images that are more than one megabyte in size. There should be some software on you computer that will do it. Some of the newer smart phone even have photo reduction software. There are several ways to reduce the image. You can right click on any computer and choose properties to find out the exact picture size. Most Windows computers have a program called MS Paint or just Paint that can reduce the image size. There is also places on the web that will reduce the size for you. Of course, they will try to sell you some image reduction software too, but you get the image reduced.

Reducing the physical size as measured in pixels will reduce the number of megabytes.
Reducing the number of colours will reduce the number of megabytes. Grey Scaling will reduce it by a huge number.
Reducing the resolution will also reduce the number of megabytes.

Adobe is one of the largest and most dependable image manipulation programs.

I tried resizing it. Still didn’t work
Are you trying to post it direct, or using the Forum attach image software? Down at the bottom of the reply box is a paperclip and Attach Files link. Click that, locate the file on your device and attach it, then you select insert thumbnail. It should place a thumbnail size of your picture in the reply. You still have to click on the Post Reply just like you do to post text messages. You can also mix text messages and the attached pictures.

Be sure the size is less than a megabyte before even trying to post it. If it is more the image will not post.

  • 1 Byte: The smallest unit, typically consisting of 8 bits.
  • 1 Kilobyte (KB): 1,024 bytes.
  • 1 Megabyte (MB): 1,024 kilobytes (1,048,576 bytes).
  • 1 Gigabyte (GB): 1,024 megabytes.
  • 1 Terabyte (TB): 1,024 gigabytes.

@Cloak, if you haven't:

  1. put your cursor in the spot you want the pic to appear in your draft post;
  2. gone down to the 'Attach Files' box below the text entry field;
  3. uploaded and attached your image so that it appears in the 'Attach Files' box below the text entry field of the new post/post reply; and
  4. then clicked on small image/the word INSERT in the top of the small image shown in that 'Attach Files' field so that the words 'Thumbnail' and 'Full' appear over the top left portion of the small image;
  5. then clicked on 'Thumbnail' in that uploaded & attached image so that a thumbnail copy of your pic/image also appears where you put your cursor in the text field;
  6. before hitting 'Post reply'...

then you haven't yet inserted the pic as a thumbnail iaw the directions in the Sticky. :oops:

Thanks @Gwolf! Those pics are certainly worth 3000 words!! (y)

I occasionally get reminded to try and show some pics like that, but the reminders invariably come along when I'm using one of my smaller/not so capable devices on the Forum, or when I'm stuck doing everything thru 'talk to text', so it's not all that easy or necessarily even readily do-able... 😖

And of course, there's always something more important going on the next time I remember/I'm back on a 'normal sized' device! 🤬

You need some images like that let me know. I don't text, and I don't use smart phones. I use a Linux Ubuntu with full set of installed image software, large monitor, mostly at night. I don't answer the phone at any time. It is a distraction. The phone messages go to an answering machine and I call back later if it is important. If not important the messages are sent into cyberspace without a final destination. I don't mind helping out. Working with images is sort of a hobby. Used to design websites, logos, etc way back in the days of Win 98 when the Internet was the wild west.
