• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My Motohorn died on me this weekend

Well it happened again. I had to fix my Motohorn a little while back and make myself a diaphragm after the compressor blew the original one out, but I was out this weekend and it died right in the middle of giving a toot to some kids who were waving as I was going by. It just died mid way through the blast and never came back.

I pulled everything off today and no loose connections and getting 12v from the relay to the compressor but it's not running, you just hear the click of the relay and I can feel the compressor trying to do something but it seems to be jammed.

Unlike the last time, Motohorn is selling spare parts like compressors now, but they are out of stock. So for now, the little BRP beep beep horn is hooked back up.

May be it's time to start looking at another horn manufacturer.

I bought a package of 2 Wolo Bad boy Air Horns on Amazon for $50 dollars a few yrs back. They make a good noise and they're still going strong. I see they now cost more than that for 1. Auto part stores carry them too, I've seen. Just a thought.

Thanks, but I contacted Motohorn support and they stated they will have some replacement compressors in about 2 weeks and they are $39. So I guess I gotta live with my mouseketeer BRP horn for now. Luckily enough, I left the stock horn on and just had to swap the leads from the relay back to the stock horn. I left everything else in place in case I could find the compressor. So when I get it, it will be a quick swap out.

Over the years, I've found with quite a few of these compressor type horns that you need to be a little careful with where you place/mount the compressor and orient it so that its air inlet and the body drain aren't exposed to any road spray, rain/washing water, or dust/mud/bug entry; and the same goes for the horn trumpets themselves! :oops:

If you don't pay attention to how they're all angled and any road spray from the wheels &/or underbody when riding while it's raining or even if you're just riding thru puddles can get blasted into any of those open holes; if any rain or washing water/spray can get under the bodywork and then run or drip into those openings; or if too much in the way of dust/mud/bugs can get blown/sucked/blasted into any openings, then these 'compressed air' type horns tend not to work for too long!! 😖

The tiny little holes on the sides of the compressors that I've used have been particularly problematic, it's often really hard to fit the compressors in such a way that they don't get a blast of water/dust/mud from somewhere (I've even resorted to making shields/covers for the compressors); and if your horn system has those trumpet thingies, their 'sound output' nozzles really need to be angled down and backwards, or at least protected from any dust/mud/bug entry or they too will clog up fairly quickly!! And even when mounted in the ideal position, you should occasionally give them a bit of a clean out/back flush - you might be surprised at how quickly they'll die if anything goes in the wrong way!! Or given the subject of this thread, maybe you won't be?! 🤔

This saying is so true, I am done with motohorn. I had it installed with the lamonster kit and followed his instructional video to do the original install. I ordered a replacement compressor from motohorn, after doing the swap out with the new compressor and when I went to connect to the positive line to the positive terminal it just collapsed into the compressor.

I immediately got so pissed I just yanked the whole thing off my F3 and threw it in the trash, then reconnected the stock horn. Hopefully I can at least get my money back for this cheap ass POS compressor and this one was supposedly the new "Version 3.0" compressor that is better built than the old ones.

I have had this horn fail on me several times while on the road and no longer chancing it failing at the wrong time.

@Lamonster, I would seriously reconsider the sale of this POS, it has failed too many times on the road for me and to sell this is putting your customers at risk.

Yep, me too! I'm done with it. It was my second aftermarket horn on my RT, and I'm done with these things. It worked great before I installed it, but after two weeks, it quit working.
 
After the first six months and my trip down to the Dragon, it would just start to fail every couple of months. I tried to keep it going, but it has just failed too many times to keep it on there, especially with this last compressor, which was supposed to be a better design but never even hit the road before it failed.

I do need to state that Lamonster didn't sell me the horn or the compressor, I went straight to the Motohorn site as Lamonster was out of the black horns. Normally, everything on Lamonster has a high quality and value, so I don't know how this one slipped by, other than at that time they were new and didn't have enough time to experience any failures. I just want to let them know that this product does not live up to the reputation that this site has for recommended parts and aftermarket accessories.
