Latest BRP Safety Bulletins for Shaft Replacement (2019-12) and Shaft & Sprocket Replacement (2019-13) Recalls - Jan 2025

Hey. Spyder F3 Limited 2018 on recall for output shaft. Part is in, dealer has bike for 2 wks. Is this a joke that it takes that long? Help!

Apparently, they can do just about what they want to. I called numerous times about the first recall on the front final drive sprocket. I was going to take it to them on a trailer and wait while they repaired it. They claimed the parts were not available. Then claimed the recall repair was never scheduled. When I asked the person who schedules these jobs what his name was, he said it was Steve. I told him I had talked to Steve about scheduling the repair and gave him the date and time of the call, which I had written down. He said that was another Steve and that one no longer works there. I checked around and all the other dealerships in about 500 miles are owned by the same parent company.

I ain't playing the game any more. When and if the parts finally break, I will get the replacement parts and fix them myself. I have already seen some samples of the work from the nearest dealership, and it did not impress me. I don't care about the cost, but if they open something up, I want it fixed right, and so far that has not been happening very often at the dealership which I will not name, but if they did any work for you, then you might be able to guess the name. That is all I am gonna say about it.

I know what happens if you loose power to the rear wheel. I have had final drive belts break, or lose a lot of teeth on on the Harleys I rode for over 20 years. Wear and broken parts are just something you have to deal with.

My dealer had it for 9 days and had not started the recall, which had been scheduled several week ahead of time. We had a over night ride planned, so I picked it up and took it back yesterday. Tech was getting ready to put the engine back in the one before me. I am going to stop by tomorrow and check on progress and hopefully get some pictures. Service writer took me in the shop to see the one tech was working on.

Dropped mine off around the dealer today for the shaft recall.
Hey there @rjinaz86323, I noticed you said Peoria... I'm up in Preskitt and that's where mine was just delivered today (picked up in Preskitt). Could I ask how that went? Was the drive belt tight, were the body panels replaced properly, etc? I heard these are things to check in on from this pretty involved recall change. AZ Boy.

Well guys, mine went under the knife today, finally. I waited 16 days, so I am sure I am the not the first one, thank God. I hope to take her home at least by Saturday. I plan to go and see if she's ready by Thursday. They might want to charge me a storage fee of $30.00 a day. I am looking to wash and clean her up, then have plans for the Deland Bike Fest.

I was only 2k miles away from this not happening. The dealership is waiting for the drive shaft bearing currently. I am worried that the risk of the drive shaft breaking was not worth it vs the risks of doing this recall. This is a major repair and will the tech really do the job correctly? Does this bring up a whole new set of issues? I can only hope not, mainly because I felt my bike was operating normally.

I think that all was done well, but I haven't got it back yet. I needed a little extra work done and I didn't explain it properly, so they had to redo some work. Since it wasn't ready when they said it would be, they agreed to deliver it to me in Chino Valley. Well, I can't say they have the best delivery guy. When he unloaded it from the trailer, he didn't check the clearance and tore the front grill off. So I had him load it back up and take it back. Talked to them yesterday and the parts came in, so it should be ready early next week. I am going down to pick it up. I don't want that guy touching it again. But all said, I have been happy with all my interactions with RideNow in Peoria.

A bit more info from Smoak. Brief overview of engine removal and an old broken shaft. It’s hollow. I expect he will give more sneak peeks from time to time. Starts around time 8:00. (No, that Champagne machine is there for other problems, not for this).

curb scoopers?

I had a question regarding the pulley and red dust so I cropped into it.

Well, I got my Spyder back today. Rode about 12 miles home and then spent some time rerouting my battery tender wires to where they had been when I took it in. Rerouted the secondary seat release cable too. And setting the clock. They put about 2 miles on it in their check out ride(s). Going to take it for another spin this afternoon and a real ride tomorrow.

I thought I would include a photo of how stripped down my 2018 F3 Limited was during the recall repair. While the engine was out and readily accessible, I requested new spark plugs and fuel filter. I also needed a clutch pack (the broken ring in the photo) which was handy, having the engine already out. All is now reassembled and my Spyder is back home.

Before the latest NW Minnesota snow storm hit, I got in a 10 miles check-it-out ride - all is well.

The tech at my dealer in Fargo, ND, did a terrific job of making everything right.

I just purchased a 2018 F3-S with 10k miles on it. I wasn't aware of the recall until after I purchased it and ran the VIN. I pulled the pulley cover off and noticed the date on it says 10/22.

Already been replaced?
My post stopped short of finishing my thought there. I'd assume the pulley has been replaced but the recall for the output shaft is still showing that it needs to be done. I checked with the dealer and they said I'd have to drop it off and them order the parts. However, they had one in service that has been waiting a month for the parts. I asked about taking it and bringing it back once the part arrives, which they are ok with, but I'm curious if BRP will warranty it if it should break while I'm riding it. The dealer said this recall is a 'Stop Riding' recall.

That's quite probably the earlier sprocket (only) recall, not the current output shaft recall. Best you contact BRP & have them check the recalls done against your Spyders VIN.

Despite what the dealer told you, I don't see anywhere in the recall notice that we are directed to stop riding or that if I do continue to ride and it breaks (below the mileage limit) they will not repair it.

I just got mine back from the recall. I rode it home. Felt fine. My only complaint is it is absolutely filthy. So this weekend will require a major cleaning. But with a fresh oil change and new coolant, probably worth the wait.

That was my assumption as well. How could they deny a recall if I'm within mileage limits, regardless of it being ridden or not?!
