• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm sure it was a difficult choice to make. You will miss it. We will miss you. Stop in once in a while for a quick fix.

One older gentleman in what had been my old riding group decided that when the Goldwing became too much for him he went for a Mazda Miata. I decided to go to the Spyder RT and hope at 81 to still have a few years left. But I also have a Mini Cooper convertible, and when the RT becomes too much I hope I can still enjoy the wind in my hair from the inside of that little convertible. You might want to look into that possibility for yourself. The Mini is not quite as hard to get into and out of as the Miata, for old folks, but it still gives the feeling of driving a sports car like vehicle. I doubt that the Mini sedan would be anything like it, but the convertible is the closest thing to riding a motorcycle on 4 wheels. Good luck.

At 72 years young I find that I am thinking of selling my Spyder, But I am still holding on to it. All of the friends who used to ride have died, moved or just stopped riding. I belonged to a Spyder club, But that was not for me. I have one more big trip planed and i will see if I call it quits. The wife wants me to stop riding also, and just wants me to work on my El Camino. It is a tough decision to make.

As much as I would hate to give up my spyder, an EL Camino is a nice transition vehicle. I know most people hate them but I would love to get a hold of an older model camino to be able to fix up and take out cruising. Either that or an old subaru brat for going out on the dirt roads with around here.

Bill, since you are my hero and I use you for inspiration, don't quit yet. I'm only 88 3/4. So really don't want hang it up yet. (but I can see the handwriting on the wall .:cry:)

Onya Bill... Keep on keeping on. Yes, it wasn’t my age per se (I’m only 74, not an Old Bugger like you😆😆), but a combination of issues. If I still had my original riding group, and the roads weren’t as terrible as they are, I would have hoped to ride on into my 90s. There’s a member of one of the clubs I belong to who gave up 2 wheels at 90, and bought a sidecar. He then gave up piloting the sidecar rig at 95, and now sits in the chair while his son pilots. He is now 101 and gets out for coffee and cake twice a week. He does need a hand to get up out of the sidecar though😉😆😆

Pete, sorry to hear of your retirement - all of us will face the same issue sooner or later. I was happy that we could do the seat deal a few years ago and that the Russel Day Long worked well for you.

Thanks Peter. Yes, your generosity saved me a significant amount of effort and $, for which I remain extremely grateful. I managed to pass the Daylong on to another “significant” sized RT rider at 6’6 and 300 lbs, so our legacy lives on.
Are you still “seasonally relocating”?

I also don't bend as well as I used to, so doing my own work is getting harder and harder. In short, I see the end coming for me also in the not too distant future. I will be keeping my Spyder as it is high mileage, obsolete, and more trouble then it is worth to try to sell. I hope that you will continue to inflict us with your presence, your comments and advice are much enjoyed.

As I mentioned earlier, you know in your own mind when the time is right, Paul. I am just glad that it was me who made the decision and not some “higher authority” forcing it on me.

Just as an aside, I was very wary of selling privately due to the large numbers of tyre kickers, swindlers, low-ballers, potential thieves, test rides etc, so I went with a mob called Australian Motorcycle Wholesalers. Soooooo easy… one text, a few photos, an offer, pickup from home with the money transferred and available before the Spyder was loaded.
‘21 RT-L are advertised privately for around $30k out here, and say $32-33k from a dealer. They offered me $27k with none of the private sale hassles. Win-Win for me. I was very happy… and some lucky buyer picked up an RT with Ikon shocks all round, BajaRon swaybar, Jurock 25” flip screen, Garmin XT, Dashcam front and rear, Helibars, rear cover for when the trunk is off, Tow-eyes for loading onto a trailer, Neutrino Smart fuse block, Power Commander, etc, etc, etc.

That was good choice on your part. No hassle and fast cash. The end for me will come when something happens that I can`t fix and there it will sit, as I don't have the cash for a dealer to fix it. Glad you got to retire with honor, Pete; and I am glad you will continue to be around.
