• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Floorboards & Brake Extension

My SE5 curser is now complete. I have added it's floorboards which I will review briefly here.

I selected the ISCI floorboards. They cost me just a little under a grand.
I got the floor boards right and left side, the brake extension lever and peddle, and the parking brake extension peddle.
The installation
The fit and finish is great they are very well made and sturdy as a rock. The installation took about three hours as we were unfamiliar with what we were doing. It could have taken less time if you are familiar with the engine and its mounting. The brackets fit on the engine mount bolts, the floorboards mount to the brackets and to the driver foot peddle mount. You saw off the factory brake peddle and the extension mounts over the outside of the peddle arm. The parking brake just replaces the factory brake peddle.
Ride
These boards bring your feet forward and down to a position which is much like you get on the RT.
My foot rests underneath the brake peddle on the right side which I didn't expect and you have to move your leg and foot out and around or back, to hit the brake. Takes about the same time as when you move your foot from the accelerator to the brake in a car. But isn't as quick as with the factory brake peddle.
Takes some getting used to.
The position is immediately, noticeably, more comfortable than with the factory peddles. And as a result you sit much more naturally on the bike.
You loose about 3/4 of an inch of ground clearance with the boards. You also have to really fling your leg up and over the seat to get on. Since the boards are much lower than the pegs were, it is a bIt of a stretch for my 65 year old joints.
Miscellaneous
The brackets have two mounting points for additional highway pegs.
Summary
These really make a difference in riding comfort. It is hard to describe but the new foot position makes the big difference. It angles your butt differently on the seat, which is a much more natural position to sit. You are more on your butt and less on your crotch. If that makes any sense.
Getting on and off is a little more difficult.
Using the brake peddle takes some getting used to but not too much of a problem.
Parking brake is a lot more accessible and no more banging your shins. The peddle is gone so there is nothing to bang them on anwho.
You may have gathered that I am pleased with these, But don't think they are for everyone. If you ride the twisties flat out and need instant access to your brake that could be a problem. I would recommend adding the hand brake to this configuration, would really make twisty riding fun.
For comfort riding ISCI floorboards are the best.

Your Spyder looks great, Arachnid! I'm a bit concerned about the brake reaction time. Be sure to report back to us when you have more riding time with the new setup.

Neez, just got 65º here today and I just got back from logging 100 miles on the bike. I can honestly say the brake peddle position is no problem. It becomes as natural as can be after a few applications. It actually feels a little better because it is so wide. I seem to rest my heel on the top of the brake arm when using the brake, don't know, just where it naturally goes.

I retraced a rout I used to the lake a month or so ago and verified that the bike is now much more easy, comfortable and less strenuous to ride. When I got back I felt gerrrrrate.

Thanks Billy for the fine accessories.

Thanks, Arachnid. Looks like the hot setup for us geezers (I'm 67) who appreciate comfort more than high speed.
