• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What Hobbies do you have other than the Spyder?

My username says it all. Anything dealing with wood, Woodworking, remodeling, anything house related, handyman, furniture making. Most of my career path, not able to get a job close to me, right now my round trip commute is 96 miles. Here is NC I can ride mostly year around, so motorcycling is a year around hobby. Average is 20,000 on my 2 wheeler, and 5,000 on Spyder each year. Been keeping mileage records since 1998 when I got my first Honda PC800. Since then I have 580,000 total miles

I started doing a little stained glass.

Sorry. Don’t know how to flip over pictures. Weird that they would load that way. *♂️

That's almost certainly cos you took them in 'Portrait Mode' - with your phone/camera upright, camera lens near the top of a tall & narrow rectangle.

Most phone's/Camera's default their tall & skinny 'Portrait Mode' pics to have an 'Anchor Point' in their upper RIGHT corner, while the Forum Software requires short & wide pics with the 'Anchor Point' in the upper LEFT corner! We can't change the Forum software, but you can change the way you hold your phone/camera, so if you want your pics to show in the correct orientation, the simplest way to make sure that happens is to ALWAYS take any pics that you think might ever end up here in 'Landscape Mode' (ie, wider than they are tall); and you need to access that by dropping the top of your phone/camera to the LEFT, or if you prefer this descroption, just rotate it 90° Counter-Clockwise! :lecturef_smilie:

I'm a Lego fanatic, and own way too many Lego kits.
I even attended a Lego convention in Nashville, TN called Brick Fest Live.
There were a number of professionally built creations on display.

I also visit a jigsaw puzzle building website and solve a lot of puzzles.

I play saxophone, and want to learn piano.

Besides the Spyder tours, my summer hobbies are boating and photography.
During wintertime, I put my cameras on my telescopes and try to capture some deep sky images. A cold but rewarding hobby for me, when the sky is not clouded over that is. Here is our nearest neighbouring galaxy, "Andromeda".

After the Spyder riding season is over, I usually ride my snowmobile. I don't get much down time between spyder season and sled season.

For years my main hobby centered around remote control. Raced RC cars competitively, oval, onroad and offroad. Still have a hanger full of RC planes but they don’t see the use they did in the past. Now its drones and you will rarely see me without at least one. Can always find a reason to get a drone in the air.
Now I like to camp when the body tells me it’s able. And lately I have gotten interested in 3D printing.
Don’t get to ride as much as I would like due to the heat and rain, can’t ignore them like I used to (age and health). But do drag out the scooter for short trips just cause it’s so much fun.

While I've been a motorcycle rider since I was 15, my other life long hobby predates that. As a kid, I always liked science, and growing up during the Moon race lit the amateur astronomer fire in me. Along with a Spyder in my garage, I also have a telescope in the backyard. While great roads and scenery are important to riding, living under dark skies has always been a dream of mine. A year and a half ago we bought a house in rural Arizona and instead of driving over an hour to dark skies, I now walk to the backyard. Before, we lived in Western Washington, a place I called astronomy hell. Mostly cloudy skies except for short, beautiful summers which unfortunately, because of the latitude, came with very short nights. After 30+ years living there, I found I had lost much of my knowledge of the winter skies because they were so often hidden. Here, in the Arizona desert, summer is my down time, both with my scopes and with my bike. Temps in my observatory can regularly exceed 120°F so the scope gets packed away. I just can't bring myself to go for a ride when temps exceed 100°F. I haven't been here long enough for that yet.

I also have a broader interest/hobby, and that's a human one - literally - that split off from my amateur astronomy interests. Because amateur astronomy is a visual hobby, I became interested in how the human eye/brain system works and learning about human visual perception; then split off into perception overall; and how the brain processes input from the senses. This split again into learning about the evolution of the human brain, and the dawn of self-awareness and abstract thinking. All this taken together also got me interested in human behavior. Oh, yeah, during the COVID years I became interested in virology and the history of pandemics, which led to origin of life theories (which is also part of astronomy and the search for life elsewhere) Did I mention I've always had an interest in science?

Photos are of my main scope - a 12-inch, Y2K era, Meade LX200 Schmidt Cassegrain. On the top of the 12" is my 4" Solar Scope. Besides those two scopes, I have a 6" Refractor and a 94mm Refractor. I've been imaging the Sun in various wavelengths for over 2 decades; the planets for about 5 years; and I am now dabbling in deep sky stuff. Examples attached: Sun in h-alpha (red); white light (sunspots); and Calcium-K wavelength (violet); Jupiter and two of its moons; a supernova in another galaxy; and the Andromeda Galaxy. I enjoy regular photography too. There's more - Enough that I like to say: "Hi, my name is Tom, and I'm a Hobbyholic."

Now you know where the Astro part of my screen name comes from.

In no particular order…
Riding my Spyder
Target shooting (handguns and bolt action rifles)
Making electronic music (I’m horrible but it’s really fun)
Learning piano / synth (Yamaha PSR-EW410)
Reading science fiction, horror, “literature” (always sounds pretentious to me), short stories, essays, how-to
Journaling
Fountain pens (I don’t know if it qualifies as a hobby but I pretty much use them exclusively. I have a bunch of cheap ones and lots of bottles of different colors of ink.)

Attending Spyder Rallies
Trains, looking for old train stations, collecting train memorabilia.
Traveling the country.

I have been working on anything with an engine. I love to see them run after sitting outside or in an old building for like forever. Lawn Mowers were my favorite. Parts were not very expensive.

Thorough the years I have enjoyed working on the Engines of Automobiles, Trucks, Boats, Farm Tractors, Lawn Equipment, Motorcycles and of course my Spyder. I even helped a friend on an Airplane project. This was a total rebuild. About 4 years of experience to complete this process.

Basically if it had an 'ICE' engine I probably worked on it.

Just bought a new to me RT Limited to my list of hobbies.
Golfing
Pickleball
Big Green Egg
Boating
Kayaking
Not sure this is a hobby, but a lot of time on cutting the grass/yard work.

Bob

I did a search for this thinking Spyder Ryders would surely have other hobbies. My search turned up nothing. My apologies if this has been done.

I'm just curious what other hobbies Spyder owners engage in.

I'll list mine first:

photography
motorcycles
golf
road cycling
fishing
hunting & target shooting

I have several other Hobbies.

My main hobby is Ham Radio, DX'ing, County Hunting, Contesting, and Digital modes, FT8, etc. My callsign is NF0N. I still ride a pedal bicycle and a tricycle. I dabble in Photography, reloading, and have several firearms. I guess planning Spyder trips is also a Hobby. And I guess you can call retirement as a Hobby too.
