• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How easy is it to replace Mode and Parking buttons? The print on 2019 RTL has gone!

I bought my bike used, and the print on the mode button is all but gone (and has seemed to still be getting more worn each ride). The (P)arking brake button also is a little worn. (Neither are really faded... it's more like the print has simply come off in places, and is intact in others.) I assume the previous owner got something on them that was caustic or something and caused them to come off.

My OCD would like to have them "like new" and they can't be expensive, but how hard is it to disassemble that left assembly and get to them to replace?

(If someone does happen to have the part #s handy, it will save me the trouble of hunting them down.)

Update: It appears that maybe these are not sold separately, but are part of assembly 8400, part #710008164 that sells for $630, but is not available online. Geesh. Anyone parting out a compatible model, or know a way to source these?

Some years ago someone posted how he or she refreshed the paddle shifter + sign. I did a quick search here but couldn't find it. Maybe you'll have better luck.
 
Before I spent that kind of money, I would have someone make stencils and paint the symbols back on.
 
I had my left-hand assembly out a while back to install OEM heated grips, and if I recall correctly, the switches were/would be very hard to replace. Most, if not all, are embedded in an epoxy of sorts, presumably to make them waterproof. It looked very well made and protected, but not very DYI friendly.

EDIT: Also, you cannot disconnect the wiring at the housing, meaning that replacing the switches also requires some disassembly of the plastics and some creative fenagling to fish out the harness that is wire tied in a few places. The harness on the LH side runs through the handle bar loom, under the instrument cluster and down the right side to the area under the left cowling. (the big panel). Doable, but time consuming and a PIA!

Bummer. Oh well, I tried. I don't think there's any way way to stencil and paint these on as clean as factory. I'll live with it.
 
My brand new F3 with less than 500 miles on it already has the Mode button text rubbing off. It was kinda iffy when I took possession of it. I'll add this to the warranty work needed when and if I go to the dealer.

I wear gloves while riding BUT, my Spyder has less than 500 miles on it. I've been busy with stuff around the house, and I haven't had much of a chance to get out and ride. So, it's not like the Mode button has seen much action.
 
you can't buy the exact replacements, but new covers are available, and you can have some fun with them.

I replaced my parking brake with a windshield wiper one. But I also bought a blank one and had a sign shop print me an ejection seat sticker that I made up. It has been on the bike for 4 years. I added a switch to the middle hole for some LEDs, the new switch turns them on.

Here's what I would do..

I would mask off the area around the buttons, leaving them exposed. I would then clean them *carefully* so as to not remove anymore of the lettering. I would then spray them with some type of UV resistance clearcoat - maybe several times to protect them and provide a longer service life.

Add this one to the list of Can-Am quality issues..... :dontknow:

That's a good idea! Instead of spray I might just brush some on in a couple of thin coats.

Be careful with this. I'm not a chemist, but doesn't some nail polish contain acetone or other chemical that may actually wipe off the lettering? It would be terrible to be brushing it on to see your letters melting, then when you realize it and try to 'wipe' the nail polish off, only to find that takes the letters all the way off! :gaah:

I believe it's the nail polish remover that may contain acetone, not the polish itself. But, many nail products are acetone free. Good point tho :)
 
Howdy,

If the effects of all that chemistry worries you, could you maybe cut a small piece of clear vinyl wrap and cover the buttons artwork with it ?

That would bug my OCD if that little bit of wrap started to peel up....lol ;) Seriously, that's also a great idea!
