There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2015 F3S, just stating that I haven't had any problems since replacing the battery. Is it possible that a slightly low battery voltage could trigger the error? (in at least some cases, or more easily cause the error if there is a problem starting to develop?) I plan on having DESS disabled, just so I don't have to worry about it.

HI 3Tyme,

I haven't heard of anyone having D.E.S.S errors problems that have had a low battery voltage on their spyders.

Again, when I started this thread, my Spyder at the time (2014 RTS-SE6) the battery was fully charged/the battery voltage was OK.

I have a 2020 RTL. I thought I'd be safe from the DESS monster, but I've read of others that have had DESS issues with the 2020+ models.
I had my DESS disabled while I was at SpyderQuest.
I've been assured that this is permanent.
In other words, if or when BRP issues a firmware update for my Spyder, the update won't overwrite the DESS and reactivate it.
Does anyone have any other definitive information on this.

IMHO .... I wouldn't trust BRP to fix the DESS ...... they have already claimed to have fixed it a few times in the past few years ..... some engineer broke what wasn't broke in 2014 ..... Just be happy it's no longer an issue for you .....Mike

That's correct. Just like changing the Country Code or turning off the Error Code History, it would take the reverse action of what it took to Disable it to turn it back on - ie. someone would hafta connect up to BUDS; navigate to the DESS Option; and toggle the switch to turn it back on - that is, it'd require a DELIBERATE action, it's not something that can 'just happen' thru an upgrade ...

ThreeWheels,

Get in contact with BRP and ask them to issue an update for your firmware on your spyder.

Also, have your dealership open up a case with BRP.

Does anyone have a picture of the Check Key display so I don't have to scroll through this entire thread looking for one? I need it to share with a friend who just purchased a 2015 RT-S so he knows what to look for and get his DESS deleted when the time comes.

You do know that you can search just this thread, don't you? :dontknow:

Up in the line immediately above the first post on any page is a 'Search thread' button, simply click on that; enter "Check Key" into the search box (include the quotation marks so that it'll search for the phrase nor just each word ;) ) and hit submit. Sure, there'll probably be a few results for you to look thru, but I'm pretty sure there's at least some images in there & it won't take you all that long...

OK, I gave that a shot, but the only picture I found was of a 2020+ and I need a shot of a 2014 or 2015 so my friend knows what to look out for.

Thanks for the advice nonetheless.

"Check key" is not (to the best of my knowledge) a .... DESS failure ..... I also have a 14 RT so have Him look on pg.144, of His owners manual ...; it has pics of what the failure codes will be displayed on the instrument screen .... I forget what the DESS failure wording looks like, but it's similar to the Limp Home screen It's large. ORANGE, and replaces the entire MPH area ..... hope this helps ....Mike

I may have misinterpreted Peter's response but I thought it was referring to the check key error causing the need to disable the DESS.

The DESS effectively triggers a DON'T START signal in the ECM if/when it doesn't read the correct code from the key, so by turning the DESS OFF, it can never trigger that DON'T START message, and therefore the engine will start EVERY TIME! :ohyea: Simples really!

crusinTX, Look at page #1 (at post #13); Page #3 (post #72); also, page 4 (post #100) for pictures of the Check Key Display in this thread. They are pictures of the Display on a 2014 RT. I hope your friend doesn't get the DESS error before he has to have it deleted.

I hope the above helps.

HI All,

Was wondering if anyone has had the D.E.S.S. Error code on their F3 LTD Spdyers?

I am just curious.

Not the first time you've asked that Deanna, altho maybe the earlier 'asks' were not specifically for just the Ltd's; but a few F3 owners have answered in the affirmative. ;)

There's a post about an F3-T with this issue back around post #167....

Then there's Mike Ard at post #289 wondering if, given the difference between the RT display and the F3 display, his F3's 'Bad Key' error isn't the same problem as the DESS error? BRP initially replaced his DESS Antenna, then when the problem continued, replaced the entire DESS Module - which, BTW, is apparently exactly the same part# as those in the RT's.

Another F3S with a Bad Key at posts #487 & #490 from SpyDerSts...

Then wengerda, with a 2016 F3L at posts #572-#574

And that's only searching up to page #24....

Peter Aawen,

Thanks for the info.

OK. I am glad that BRP replaced his DESS Antenna.

OK.

I was only wondering.

While this thread (started by Deanna777) has a vast amount of quality info in it regarding these DESS failures and how to fix &/or resolve them permanently, these concerns are particularly relevant to the 2014-2016 Spyders and so should no longer be quite as much of a problem as they have been in years past. However, even if you might not get to see many of them, we are noticing an increasing number of posts that really don't belong here, as they are not really on this subject and are diverting the thread and discussion away from the real point and topic here, so this thread is now closed, but it remains a Sticky and a valuable resource for all! :lecturef_smilie:

If you find have questions that you wish to ask that haven't already been covered in this thread (yes, we understand that it IS long, but just about everything you might want to know is already covered in this thread/these pages, you just need to take the time & effort to search the thread &/or read thru it to find them. ) please send me or any of the other Mods a PM with a brief outline of your concern and we will look into re-opening this thread for a short while so you can ask and get answers as appropriate. Any new threads started on this same topic/subject are likely to be merged into this thread anyway, so please, just send us that PM first; and if it's not really on the DESS failure issue discussed here, search the Forum to see if it's already been covered in another thread BEFORE starting a new thread.

But for now, this thread is closed.

Thanks again Deanna.
