I purchased a wiring harness but questioned the need for it when reading the fitment listed for the item.

The compatibility listings are not identical for all brands and styles of trailer harnesses. Here is what I have ferreted out from the BRP catalog and installation instructions.
2010 to 2017 RTs use a BRP (and some after mkt like the one you show above) Y harness that plugs into the main/cargo harness
10 pin connector under the passenger seat.
2018 to 2019 RTs, and 2018+ F3s use a BRP (and some after mkt like the one you show above) Y harness that plugs into the main/cargo harness
16 pin connector. I don't find any info that indicates the F3 harness has changed since 2018.
2016 to 2017 F3s use a BRP (and some after mkt like the one you show above) Y harness that plugs into the main/cargo harness
12 pin connector. That is what you have.
For 2020+ RTs BRP, and some vendors, sell a harness that plugs into the connectors to the tail light assemblies. That's why fatboy said yours is too short, which it is, but it's actually the wrong configuration completely to connect to the tail lights.
In a lot of discussions here in early 2020 the consensus was the same harness that works on the 2018 & 2019 RTs would also work in the 2020 RTs. This leads me to believe that the 2020+ RTs can use either of two harnesses, the one that plugs into the tail light connectors or one that plugs into the main/tail light
16 pin connector under the seat. Can anyone verify if this is the case? Or did that option change from 2020 to 2021 for the RT? If yours had
16 pin connectors you possibly could have used it on your 2022 RT.
To confuse matters more some after market vendors sold a harness that plugged into the tail lights of the 2010 to 2019 RTs, the same way as the current BRP harness for 2020+. It looks to me like the tail light connectors have changed since 2019 so those earlier after market harnesses won't fit the 2020+ RTs.
So, in short, the harness you show above won't work for your 2020 RT because it's
12 pin, not
16 pin.
Another big difference between the BRP harnesses (all years) and the after market ones is the BRP harness is three pieces; the Y, or module, harness, the module itself, and the trailer pigtail. The Show Chrome harness, and the one you have, are a single piece harness.
