now that's a story I would like to hear.
BTW the performance was great. Viktor Billi is a great up and coming organist. If you go to the site on you tube you can see when other virtuoso perfomances are coming up. There will be 3 more this year.

We were in SLC for a particle accelerator conference sponsored that year by BYU. Our main host was a friend and his wife that I had met at several previous conferences. They arranged for our group to be toured through the tabernacle, including going through the pipe bases (with the operating mechanisms clicking away) while their main organist was practicing (a Thursday) and then taking us to the "sweet spot" of the tabernacle to listen to choir rehearsal (awesome) and then a few choir members coming to talk to us. We were then guided down to the basement, sub-basement (all hand-dug) and through the tunnel under a major street to the enormous conference center, eventually touring up to the roof that is planted as a decorative garden with water features and such. Really enjoyed the trip there (even though I developed food poisoning from airline food). Not an LDS adherent, but folks here were very hospitable and I was never proselytized. Of course, we were also toured through BYU and their accelerator facility (nice toys!) and the copper mine.

Thank you for telling the story. I have toured the Tabernacle many times but have never had the opportunity to go into the organ pipes or see the basements. I knew about the tunnels but have never seen them. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Maybe you can make it back to this area on your Spyder. If you do let me know.
