Qurstion for trailer owners

Hi all. I have a trailer ordered with my RT-S. What is the best form of security for the trailer when you leave it at the hotel and just take the bike out riding? Is there a way to padlock or chain it. I assumed I can chain it thru the rim and to a light post. Just checking if there are any easier ways. Thanks in advance, Jim

So why would you leave the 'shopping cart' back at the hotel?

If you do, a cable lock thru a rim, then to a post (assuming they have posts available) should do the trick. When we are camping, our trailer stays at the campsite (unless we are shopping). Otherwise, it pretty much stays hooked. Personal choice, of course.

I'm going to buy a coupler lock. Here are two sources but there are many others

Does anyone know what size ball we will be getting, a 1 7/8" or a 2".

I'm pretty sure it's a 2" ball. As far as securing it, a cable lock would be your best bet but if someone really wants it they will get it.

Tongue lock to prevent unauthorized hitching and wheel lock to make it hard to move. Make it as difficult for them as possible but in the end, if they really want it, they will get it. That's when insurance help.

I use a padlock through the coupler when it's hitched up. While in TN we found a post to put a cable lock around it. And insurance is always a good idea... cuz if someone wants something bad enough, they'll find a way to get it.

I would be surprised at this. I can't speak to the BRP trailer, but most trailers to be pulled behind motorcycles have an 1 7/8" ball. My American Legend trailer is 1 7/8". It seems I had my dealer look up the RT-622 and it was the smaller one, too, but I can't find confirmation and my memory isn't so hot.

I just found out the coupler on the RT trailer will take a 2" ball or an 1-7/8" ball, there is an adjustment to except both. The hitch comes with a 1-7/8" ball.

I've always found it handy to save my parking place at the motel if I leave my trailer behind while riding for the day. I cable lock it to whatever is available.

I did have a lady squeeze into the parking space, even with my trailer in it one night in Springfield, IL some years back. My trailer was completely blocked in. I went to the front desk & they found the owner and asked her to move her car. She was unhappy about having to move her car, but as I pointed out to her, the space was clearly already taken. :dontknow:
