• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riders Etiquette, "The Salute"

I wave to everyone on 2 or 3 wheels, except to bicyclists. I have found that I get fewer return waves on my Spyder than I used to get on my Goldwing. But no matter.

I do a lot of cycling so I wave to bicyclists also as an approval of their activity. It reminds me I need to get some exercise also. Sometimes they wave back, probably thinking, damn, I wish I was on that machine.:lecturef_smilie:

I raise my hands in the air, and wave them like I just don't care.

LOL

But seriously, I usually wait for the other rider to wave. If they wave, I give the open palm or the "hang loose" sign, depending on whatever I feel like doing. If I see another Spyder, I initiate the wave similar to when Forrest Gump sees Lieutenant Dan from his shrimp boat.

It's funny, I also have one of those cheap 49cc Chinese scooters. When I was waiting at a stop light, a bearded Harley rider pulls up next to me. I gave him a nod and a "V" sign upside down as cool as I could, and he just started cracking up.

It was the exact response I was expecting, and still to this day will initiate a wave to Harleys and sportbikes on my scooter, LOL.

I came from 2 wheels and still wave the same way as when I was on them, level or lower, 2 fingers or the whole hand and usually fairly quickly (as I'm usually moving along at a rather rapid clip)... I wear high protection gloves so getting separation in the fingers is minimal, I doubt they can even see whether it's 2 fingers or not and just see the "wave" itself... I will wave to every rider no matter what they are on... Doesn't matter to me what they ride. Only matters to me that I am still ryding!

Sorry Peacekeeper, but if you are scrutinising oncoming riders to see if they wave, you are simply being a danger to yourself and others. There are enough immediate threats on the road to watch for without adding another distraction. Wave to everyone, or no one, or sometimes, but don’t watch to see what others are doing. Sooner or later that will catch you, and possibly others around you, out;)

I dunno, but where I come from/amongst those I ryde with, a Ryder delivering a 'Spyder Salute' is when you lift one front wheel, usually (but not necessarily exclusively) during cornering! :ohyea:

And the Child Bride still can't work out how the drivers/riders of oncoming vehicles in the bush can recognise that I grew up in country & so wave at me when they rarely wave at city slickers &/or those who aren't 'locals'!

my wife waves like she's Forest Gump.... there are those that return the "forest wave" but 95% if they don't return it, she gets a grin and smile....

No, not really. Only because I give them a certain amount of time and distance, which is not a lot. I don't stare at them from the time I see them to the time they pass me, if that's you're inferring.

But to each their own ....
