• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

An octane rating, or octane number, is a standard measure of a fuel's ability to withstand compression in an internal combustion engine without detonating. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating. Octane rating does not relate directly to the power output or the energy content of the fuel per unit mass or volume, but simply indicates gasoline's capability against compression.
 
60/70 is not the best distance to use when calculating MPG. One reason is that you are working off the top of your tank which is very difficult to accurately judge, because of how/when the fuel nozzle automatically shuts off. If you rely on the automatic shut off your figures can easily be incorrect. My gas gauge won't even move in 60/70 miles after fill up. That's why I gave my overall average for 64K+ miles for ALL my fillups. I wasn't trying to calculate the average on that tank -- just trying to explain why I had the anomolous 48.4 "high" tank.

Wow reading all these great posts about mileage in the mid 30s. i am getting 25mpg and i am concerned....

So if it's new, it's probably not run in yet.... With any luck, it'll start getting better as it gets closer to & eventually passes about 5,000 miles or so - altho some do report that not happening until 10,000 miles! :dontknow: . Ahh well, whichever - t's a good excuse to get on & do some ryding! :thumbup:

:agree: .... I have checked how much gas was just put in when the Auto shut-off occurs .... I then ADD another 1.5 or more gas , to actually fill the tank. .... so that's about 60 miles of driving in that 1.5 gals. .... good luck .... Mike :thumbup:

Many of the newer stations or the ones that have been retrofitted, pump fuel so fast it prevents "topping off". I top off to the neck ring and can touch the fuel with my finger which is an extra gallon. I find another 1/2 gallon generally spills over. Currently, I'm only tracking fuel, not miles. At the end of summer, I'll calculate miles and fuel for a long term average MPG.

Well I guess we in Vermont are lucky ... occasionally I encounter a tricky gas nozzle trigger, but it's infrequent .... I don't think I've ever lost more than a few drops, from overfill ..... Mike :thumbup:

Did you read about the long funnel trick? I'd thought about it before but haven't tried it yet.

Totally, I cringe reading this thread because even though I am a conservative rider, I get about 29 - 30 mpg. I get so jealous of these 40 mpg guys.

I looked and you also have the 1330 engine like me .... I ddin't start to get 38-40 mpg's untill about 4000 mi. .... if you have that much mileage ..... unless there is something wrong with your engine, the only other thing I can think of is your driving in the lower gears. ..... around town I usually drive in 6 th @ 2100 rpm's ..... good luck .... I was thinking about this too since I consistenly get in the very high 30's and low 40s where my husband usually gets more like the mid-30's. I try to keep the RPMs right around 3000 and he tends to prefer 4000. So I shift a lot, trying to keep that 3000. The only time I can't keep it there is high speeds (highway trips), and that's when I get lower mileage.
 
What’s your average MPG using what octane fuel, RT or F3,F3L?
When I checked twice on a recent trip, With trailer and two up riding, I averaged 33.5 mpg with Monster Fuel Injection Stage 1 ECU upgrade using premium.
So, the consensus average is about 35mpg.+-
Kool, my mini van gets 27mpg…….gives me more reasons to ride the spyder.

I'm on my 4th Spyder (2019 RTL) and have tried the higher octanes and find absolutely no change in the MPG.. as someone in these blogs said, it's all about how you drive as opposed to what type gas you use. I burn 87 most all of the time and average around 35 MPG.

:agree: I would also add that a lot depends on "where" you ride. If you're in a place without mountains, you will/should get better mileage than those who live/ride in them.

Many unforeseen things out there can influence MPG's. For example; I'm a height challenged rider. I had 2" cut off my stock windshield and I ride with it just up of the bottom position. So overall I weigh less than some riders and I'm plowing less air than other riders. It all adds up in the overall scheme of things. And like you, I'm a conservative rider, 95% of the time. 2 up, 100% of the time. My 1330 seems to purr at 3k, as if it loves it. That's where get my best MPG's. Recently I acquired stage 2 and now it appears it prefers 3.5K. I'm still checking that out. Keep working at it ollicat, you'll get there. Oh, one other thing, pressing the corners eats up a lot of fuel also.

Yes and no. Some of my best MPG was while crossing the Rocky Mountains on I-70. Some of my lowest MPG was in the South at sea level!

Thats because there were no mountains to coast down... :ohyea:

There again it really does depend on the rider.

I know that going from Ga to Pigeon Forge Tenn. I got what I thought was great mileage on my RT-L but on the return trip (going downhill mostly) was about 3mpg better.

Then a couple of weeks later I got better mileage going to Maryland than I did coming back from Maryland.

Either way I don't sweat it, I just enjoy it. :yes:
 
My thought. It might make topping off an easier and safer process. We'll see. I'll let you know.

My thoughts on this is ..... with the Funnel in the tank you can't see anything Until it back splashes. ... and gas will come spurting out those little Vents in the Ring ..... JMHO .... Mike :thumbup:
