There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

new muffler or no new muffler

so.....I am fairly new to the motorcycle scene and am considering a new pipe. Just looking for a better sound and not looking for performance increase and not looking for a pipe that requires any other upgrade such as a juicebox or high perf air filter set up and anything like that.

I also have found that most pipes require repacking every 20 or so hours. I am really not interested in a pipe that requires that much maint. I wouldnt mind repacking every hundred hours (which would relate to once a year for me).

The stock pipe doesnt require repack.......is there any other on the market that sounds better than stock that doesnt require additional mods and doesnt need frequent repack?

Also have read that you have to drill out rivets to get to the pack and rivet the pipe back together. Are there any pipes simpler than that?

I have a Hindle that swaps out with the stock from time to time.
(depending on how heat the NYPD are giving me)

It just went back on last week, and that bad boy has well over 40k miles on it. If it needs maintenance, no one ever told me about it.. :coffee:

The heat shield vibrated right off, but its still purrs like a fat cat.

Most of the time the repack specs are for mufflers used in racing or at least run hard all the time. Average over the road crusing with occasional throttle whacks won't need nearly as much attention.

Once a year packing is usually plenty for the way we ride.

Add to this the ceramic packing materials available that will give the average user a lifetime service and you're looking at just 1 repack event in the average life of a muffler.

Not too bad.

On the other hand, most of the aftermarket mufflers (Including, in my opinion, the Hindle) will do better with a Juice Box added.

I just ordered the HMF today ,I dont expect it for 2 weeks but I have one on my Can Am 800 ATV it works great ,has a quiet core to make it easier on the ears.I hope it is the same for the :spyder2:version.

Go with the Hindle. Nice sound, weight savings and no repacking. I had a micron, that would blow the front rubber seal every 1000 miles. To replace it would require teardown and repack (about $50 in parts) and an hour of time. Now the Hindle is on and the micron is in the trash.

The Micron was a great sounding, great looking, low quality product. I suppose that is why they went stellar in sales only to crash and burn. It's not always true that you get what you pay for. But in this case it sure was.

The Leo Vince does not require repacking and has a quiet core in case it's too loud. I have 14K miles without issue. One of the better sounding too.

I've got a carbon fiber Yoshimura from NMN that I like. It's my 3rd or 4th muffler and I like it the best. It has a quiet core that helps, sound is good and I like the look.

It will need a repack, at some point. I've got about 7,000 miles on it and it won't need a repack for awhile. I've already got some ceramic packing so when I do repack it will never need it again.

I don't think you get what you pay for with the micron selling at $450 +

$99 for the 90 degree elbow and it ends up in the trash.

No reason to trash the 90. That can be reused with any slip on pipe of the same size or sell it to someone who needs the 90.

Sorry you paid that much for the Micron. They could be had for a lot less. Guess you had to know where to look.

They turned out to be a poor choice, at least for the Spyder. I had one that I really liked but when I swapped it out for the Yohimura I was happier still.

Never had any problems with my Micron but since I took it off many others did have problems.

Hindle

Have friends with the Hindle and sound great, ordered a new one and it was so loud We added insulation around the ear area of the helmet, then added ear plugs, still so loud it hurt your ears, took to a dealer that had sold and installed 12, they thought I had taken baffel out and said they had never heard one so loud, also backfires and pops, took off and sent back to have checked, have to wait and see what the problem was, put stock muffler back on, no backfires or popping or cracking, hope to get a normal sounding Hindle.:dontknow:

This is a great sounding pipe, and quality is top notch. Give Ken at Evoluzione a call.

I have had MANY pipes on my spyder, and if you want the one with no question replacement and no repack.

NMN has a exhaust coming out that is less money and very well made, plus it's custom build for the spyder.

Looking for a better sound is subjective... My recommendation is to listen to them and then make your choice... There are some samples and comparison videos in youtube... Enjoy

I'm about to buy a Yoshi as well and wonder what specific model you chose. There is a dealer (Forward Motion MC) that has a bunch on sale for almost 40% off right now but they aren't Spyder people so they don't know which model number to sell. I want to get a carbon fiber one and wonder if there are any "spyder friendly" dealers that are offering similar pricing discounts.

Thanks

Brian
