• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Engine missing

Well the title doesnt say it all, but here it goes. Bought the bike a few months ago and noticed there was a miss around 3500 to 4000 rpm and it sputtered going around turns. Bike had first update and ground wire already done. Attempted the canister mod by blocking of the hose below the purge valve. Bike "seemed" to run a little better but I could still notice a miss during acceleration and cruise. Put everything back to normal and took it back to the dealer for the second software update. Again, seemed to run better and for a week I was actually pleased with the performance and notice only an occasional miss. I figured I still needed some breaking in since I only have 1100 miles on it. Then on 5 Nov when all the crap went down at Fort Hood, I was stuck in traffic trying to leave post and was in stop and go traffic for about an hour. Started to smell gas and when I finally got moving above 20 mph, the bike ran like crap. Missed and even backfired (did this before too). Dealers response to this this first time (few months ago) was to run it at higher rpm and wait for the break in. Ok, did that. Still same prob. This time I called, first to ask if the demo truck would still be there since I got out so late, and then to ask about this latest issue. Dealer says the bike probably got "loaded" up with excess fuel and that I should just give it a good ride. Well a few days later and about 30 miles, bike still has miss at just about any speed, more so slow, at any temp and oh did I forget, sometimes just cuts out while parking or coming out of parking. Love the bike, love the cool factor, but this is a bit much for spending some good $$$. Im hoping someone from BRP reads this. Finally, dealer said that there is a 3rd update coming out. Anyone else hear this???? Thanks guys!!! Just FYI, gas milage sucks at barely over 20 to 25 mpg. I would think this is related to the issues here.

Check with your dealer to make sure they applied the Engine Optimization Update that was issued on September 28, 2009. If you have not had your Spyder at the dealer since before that date, then you don't have this one and it should fix the issues you are talking about.

Best of luck with it.

What is this?...in addition to the 2nd update?,,,never heard of this.

The so called second update is another ECM update and was actually only applicable to certain VIN numbers. This caused major confusion between the dealer techs and myself as I was telling them I needed the "update to the update" and they were saying my Spyder's VIN was not on the list. Then they received the Engine Optimization Bulletin and realized that is what I needed to have done. My wife's Spyder also needed it, as after the first update it was surging and running like crap between 3,000 and 4,000 rpms just like mine. The bulletin actually contains language that specifies poor running between those rpms.

So, if you are having the surging issue you may want to check on this. Once it is corrected you will be much happier with the way your Spyder runs. :)

Engine Missing

We had an intermittent miss on our early 2008 se5 spyder and the dealer had to replace #1 spark plug high tension wire, and that solved that problem for now.

So far, so good

Well I took the ol :spyder:in to the shop today to get the Engine Optimization update. Dealer said that mine didnt call for it (per VIN) but would do it to see if it would solve the problem. Drove home and everything seemed to run much better. Had only one insident of a miss. The only bad thing was my license plate and inspection sticker fell off on the way to the shop. Backtracked the whole 30 some miles and found nothing:gaah:. Oh well, its how the day has been going. Will keep ya'll informed if this really fixed the problem. Thanks for the help guys!!!!

Hopefully it fixed your problems for good. I am also hoping that someone found your plate and it will be coming to you in the mail soon.

Best of luck!

Hawkdriver72... I had the same...

problem one day with the license plate falling off. Had to ride the same five mile section 3 times to find it. It blew about 10 feet off the shoulder, went face down in the tall grass. Real pain in the arce to find. Also, I didn't notice if you had a catch can or not. If you do and it has the bottom drain nipple it may be weeping onto the crankcase, hince the fumes at low speed. Mine was doing the same as your description of the fuming and that is what I found.

I now have a regular vent tube made from clear tube with a 3 inch long foam filter with a screen on each side of the foam inserted to stop the oil from getting to the air box. With this mod the gas fumes get back to the air box to be burned and no oil has gotten by as of this point in time. I have a recent thread with the description and pictures. /Ken

hmmmmmm

hey krb, thanks for the info. Do you have a link to your threat so I can see the pics. The mod you talk about is one I have been considering since I have seen oil in my air box. The weather has been keeping me from riding so I havent been able to see if the update is really helping. Im sure my dealer is eagerly awaiting my call since they asked me to let em know how its doing. Should warm up beginning this week and there is a toy run on the 6th I will be attending. I should know by then if all is well.
