• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Steering scare today!

Here is an old post I remember reading awhile back. It makes me wonder if this might have something to do with all the steering issues? Can somone with more knowledge (Scotty?) please comment? Hopefully BRP has checked into this issue as a possible cause.

"On the very bottom of your frame rail, you will see a square aluminum box with a bunch of hard brake lines coming out of it. That's your VCM. There is a big black connector on the left side of the box. It has a lever on the top. Pull the lever down, until it pops the connector out. Look for green corrosion on the connctor's 4 big pins, and matching pins for VCM.

I've included some pics, that I sent to BRP. I replaced the VCM, which pays something like 2hrs, and the main wiring harness. There is no job code for this, so....I called BRP and got them to approve 5hrs of additional labor. Trust me you do not want to attemp this. Please if you see corrosion, take it to a dealer. Every piece of plastic has to come off, and all of the connectors in the back go thru the frame rail. NOT FUN!!!"

Anything is possible, but I don't really think there is going to be a single answer to these incidents. The only way to find the cause(s) is going to be for folks to get their wounded Spyders to the dealers. There is no percentage in guessing blindly.

I'm helping. My Triumph dealer wholesaled it back to the Can Am dealer and they both were aware of my issues.

I also filed the NHTSA report earlier today.

Steering scare update

We just finished picking up both of our Spyders from the dealership.

No error codes were detected.

Both Spyders had the second update performed (bulletin-engine performance optimization) and the updated vent tube installed which consisted of the following parts:

709000277 1 hose-formed
513033412 1 protector-tube
293650047 1 clamp-oetiker
293720087 1 grommet
293750008 2 tie-rap 350mm

As far as my steering, the technician could not duplicate the steering issue that I experienced after performing the update.

The ryde home was uneventful. I sure hope I don't ever experience another steering excursion!

That's even more scary...better they replicate the problem and fix it...I didn't have the second update done as my bike 'appears' to be running fine with the first...

I wonder if any and all updates will lead to some issue in some bikes...just by shear odds when you make corrections/over-corrections, etc...???

Steering Scare

Sunday while riding the Toys for Tots Toy Run in east Tennessee (the only Spyder there by the way) I had the steering act up repeatedly on my '08. At first on straight stretches I thought my front right tire was in a rut and it would feel like it broke loose as I tried to correct to the left and it would lurch and overcorrect itself. It seems like it is locking up mainly when going straight and you can feel the steering stiffen and then when you try to correct it by turning slightly left something feels like it snaps and then overcorrects and feels like you will be pitched off or go into the other lane. I finished the ride still thinking it was in my head and then riding a very twisty road home it started happening in the turns. Made it home safely and it will be on the trailer to the dealer tomorrow!

Love my Spyder gotta get it fixed!!!

What part of East TN are you in? I'm in Greeneville.

Lamont, Took the Spyder to Aloca Good Times should know something today. If for some reason they fail to correct the issue I will forward this info to you. Thank you for your support.

Update Steering Issue

Picked up the Spyder today from From Alcoa Good Times. It seems that when the second update was done the steering angle sensor had been zerod while the wheels were turned slightly 5+ degrees. They re-zeroed the sensor with the wheels straight and the Spyder performs as it should. Being as I had not had any steering issues prior to the updates thiis makes sence.

Since you've picked the Spyders up, have you done much riding and has the steering been working properly?
