• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Passenger hand holds

Funny, that was discussed in that thread too, even its potential negative effect in your love life!:D :

Just because you don't have to worry about that, does not mean the rest of us don't.

I did get my biggest laugh of the month out of reading that thread today (missed it when it was fresh). That was CheeseCake's statement:
It's only money.....
didn't buy my Spyder as an investment....

That is priceless! I have not heard talk like that since I moved out of Texas. :roflblack:

to get back on topic . . . .

has anybody removed the passenger hand holds? and if so, did u have to unbolt them or cut them off?

I guess you have your answer by now. The look is OK, but looks naked somehow. It would also be nice not kicking them every so often when dismounting.

Are you also going to take off the rear passenger pegs? Seems like if one goes, the other should also.

I ride solo and do not like having a passenger on my motorcycles. But, I am keeping my passenger bars and foot pegs, just in case I come across someone who needs a lift or some sort of emergency situation. The other case where I have used them twice was when I let a couple of guys who thought the Spyder might/could work for them and get them out of their wheelchairs onto the road. I rode passenger and operated the brake for them - the hand holds came in . . . . well, very handy.

I wish the passenger bars were a little different, but they work well for carrying stuff ( feed bags, cement blocks, wheels and tires, suitcases, etc. ) that just won't fit in the trunk or weigh too much.

Great for attaching cargo straps for camping gear, road trips, or just taking the lawn chairs to a bike show.

I would like to thank the people who answered my question about removing the hand rails. As to the ones who responded about a safety issue, this was not what I asked.I was trying to get information for a friends bike I am working on.His wife has recently has major back surgery and we are working on a way to install taller hand rails and arm rests so she does not have as much pressure on her shoulders and upper back.I apologize for any strife I have created and in the future I will be more specific about my post.I will clarify whether I am asking for help in taking something apart "has anyone removed they're hand rails" or a opinion "what do people think about removing they're hand rails".Again I apologize if I have offended anyone.

Accepted. Probably if we had known the rest of the story, you could have received more useful information. I may sometimes come on pretty strong on safety, but I do it only for fellow Spyder ryders and their safety. Whether or not their feelings are hurt, if I can alert them to something that may save them pain or worse, then I have done my job. If I don't alert them, then I have failed them and all the other ryders.

Not knowing the financial situation, or much else for that matter, it might be easier to look at one of the newer models coming out. I have not seen one in person yet, but from the photos they look as if they would serve that purpose well. I am thinking of the ones that look almost like a reverse gold wing now.

Best of luck with whatever you can come up with to make her more comfortable. I have a feeling that may not be an easy undertaking.
