• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Tire age

Just received a Vredstein Quatrac 5 from Vulcan tire with a manufacture date code of 4216
Should I be concerned with the age of this "new" tire?

Also are there any mounting suggestions for this tire. It has a blue stripe around one edge of the tread.
This is for the rear of my RTL 205/60R15

Thanks to all. Hope you are well

Generally, any tire 7 or more years old should be replaced. Your tire is halfway there. If you do any riding at all you will ware the tire out before is sees it's 7th birthday. I wouldn't worry about it..... Jim

The blue stripe MAY have conveyed some info to someone/thing at some stage of the tire's life, but only while it was being made/in the factory! :lecturef_smilie:

As far as you and anyone else is concerned now - well, actually, ever since that tire left the factory, probably all that it is there for now is making the tire look pretty!

Same with any dots that aren't red or yellow - they're not useful or important once the tire is no longer in the factory, so you can just ignore them!

go the Vredestein tire Co. website .... they will explain why there is ONE BLUE LINE ...... For a single rear wheel application it doesn't matter which side it is on, the Q-5 is " NON-directional " ...... Mike :ohyea:

I'm pretty sure the 7 year thing is what the tire can still be legally sold untill ..... personally I wouldn't be concerned about a 3 1/2 year old tire that I planned to mount within 6 mos. ..... if they will get a younger one ( for free ) do that ...... otherwise I wouldn't get cranked up about it ..... jmho ..... Mike :ohyea:

I've reached out to Vulcan tire (via e-mail) about this.
I will let you know when or if they respond.

I'm guessing that tire/size wasn't in high demand. My Vredestein Q5 165/60R15's from TireRack were 2219

I had the same experience when I bought the fronts from Tire rack.
Tires were about 4 months from Manufacture date.
Unfortunately Tire Rack doesn't carry the Q5 in the rear tire size.

Well quite a few folks here are using the Q-5 in 205/60 -15 and / or a 205/65-15 ...... remember your NANNY has quite of bit of control over what happens when traction is exceeded ..... Mike :ohyea:

Couldn't agree more. And per your recommendation I did buy the Q-5 in a 205/60-15
My only concern in the OP was the age of the tire I received (3 1/2 years old)
I guess it's not that big of a deal but will wait for Vulcan tires response before I have it mounted.
Thanks Mike and all
