There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. ABS doodad under the passenger seat?

Hey all,

Can someone tell me what the ABS doodad under the passenger seat is for? I assume it has to something to do with detecting a passenger?

My understanding of ABS is simply that a computer applies maximum brake to the wheel without locking the wheel. Why would that be affected if a passenger was on board?

Just curious and figured someone here would know.

Thanks

Add another 100# to 200# right over the rear wheel and you will dramatically change the traction the rear wheel has for both acceleration (VSS System) and braking (ABS which is also part of the VSS)

The Spyder has more than ABS. It has Electronically Distributed Braking. That changes the braking bias depending on vehicle speed and front-to-back weight distribution. The idea is to get maximum braking without the ABS kicking in. The passenger seat sensor detects the presence of a passenger, and changes the brake distribution, allowing more rear braking force since the rear wheel will no longer break loose as easily.

I personally believe it also changes the paramiters on the yaw sensing system, to allow for the added leverage of a passenger creating more yaw forces in a corner. Anybody else care to speculate on why/what this might do?

That is entirely possible. My, what they can do with 400 lines of code. :D

Thanks all. That makes sense.

Scotty, I think the Spyder has 400 codes, but a lot more lines of code in the ECM. :)
