I need a Spyder KEY ... without the CHIP !!!

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
I was lucky enough to have my DESS module Canceled / silenced ….. So I don't need a chipped key, and would rather not pay $ 25.00 ++++ for a genuine OEM key. Soooooooooooo, who has bought one ( Non-chipped ) what brand is it ???... where did you get it ??? … how much did you pay ….. Thanks … Mike :ohyea:…...Did some searching and learned that this key could be an Ilco X270….. :thumbup:Can anyone verify this ????? thanks , Mike

Mike, I just went to a local locksmith and he looked at my key, went to his carousel of keys, chose one and cut it. I still have DESS enabled, hut it locks and unlocks everything. It’s an Ilco 270x

Mike, I bought an Ilco X270 when I first got my Spyder. I found that I had to bevel the key as shown in the picture so I could push it far enough into the ignition switch to unlock the frunk and seat.

I carry an ILCO X270 key in my wallet. Its cut to fit my 2013 ST. Had to bevel the key to fit deep enough into the bezel.
Cheers, David C.

Spyder key blank - Thanks to all who responded ….. I found the Ilco X270 on E-bay for $ 3.32 each … for two ,.. and seller will combine shipping , soooooo $10.00 for two delivered …. I will check my local ACE hardware, because if you buy their blank cutting it is included :2thumbs:...… Mike :ohyea:

I had to hunt for a hardware store that had the Ilco blank; it was the hardest part for me. Big boxes and local hardware didn't have, no Ace nearby.

My local ACE Hardware store had Can Am blanks in stock. They look like the Spyder keys, but aren't chipped. I had two cut and have $10 in them. They work everything except the ignition, but after next week they will work the ignition as well

That's what I used. How did you have tour DESS cancelled and what all does that do?

I can verify the Ilco X270 is the right key. Works in all Spyders. I keep one in my billfold.

I made the mistake once of putting the nonchipped key in the ignition to open the funk and it took me 45 min to get it out

Was it an Iclco X270? Had you beveled it first?

I tested my Ilco in the trunk and it worked fine. When I tried it in the ignition it was an obvious no-go, couldn't depress it at all so I used a chipped key to determine the angle and amount of bevel and allowed a little more grinding for insurance.
