• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Does the Monster Flash have any thing to do with the spyder?

That was off topic.

" Monster " is the name of the company that is currently re-programming the Spyder " ECU " for Performance ( about 22 hp ) …. Most purchasers are quite happy with added acceleration it provides...………….. and " Pirate looks at " comment re Bobby " Boris " Pickett was a JOKE , :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: …………., as far as " OFF TOPIC ", imho the only poster here who has done it more times than you was/is Bob D. ……… Mike :ohyea:

We are seeing more and more 2014s that are now out of all warranty coverage and this issue coming up. Even some that got fixed a few years ago. Repair is over $1000 at the dealer. (new ignition, dess module, install labor, programming). We have simply turned off this defective system in BUDS saving our customers considerable funds and aggravation.

this problem has been seen with BRPs skidoo snowmobiles in the past..So. I'm new to the spyder ride, & I'm picking up my "New-to-Me" 2014 RT Limited with 5,000 miles. Do you need the spyder there to program this, OR Can I send in the module & keys in, to have that crap dess removed?? tks!

if you find a dealer that will cancel the dess module , please, please post who that is - because to-date I have never heard of a dealer that will do it. you need a buy a special buds license to be able to cancel buds …… if you are out of warranty just buy a module ( $135.00 ) and carry it with you …. when this issue happened I moved my module to a very easily accessible location ( under right headlight ) and change mine in the dark without a flashlight or tools …...mike :ohyea:

Processor needs to be functional in the bike for BUDS to work. IE you would need to bring the whole bike in.

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 and I have had the D.E.S.S module( replaced twice both times under warranty) and had the Switch replaced once( under warranty), and the keys, reprogrammed once ( under warranty), the above was done 4 years ago.

Since than I haven't had the D.E.S.S error and my spyder will be out of warranty next month( B.E.S.T warranty). Yes, any work done on my spyder will be out - of -pocket. Also, I started this thread for other spyder riders/BRP were aware of the problem.

That is what I was thinking to carry a spare/. there must be a part number in this thread somewhere..best place to buy on on the internet? thank you for the responses

Hi, I think your question was directed to me ….. it's part # 710004916, this is the 5th edition of the same part, it's their best attempt so far at fixing the problem …. however there are still people reporting failures :banghead: ….. but it's the only model currently available …. the last price I saw was @ cheapcycleparts.com ….. for $ 134.99 …. It's possible you won't ever have yours fail , but if it does and you aren't in your garage, after you pay for the Tow, the dealer is going to charge about $ 600.00, and it may take them 2-3 weeks to get it done ( possibly longer ) Total cost could be $1000.00, plus your down time. To be honest, most DESS failures aren't total initially. Usually it can be started after you get the " orange screen of death " ie. DESS failure screen..... However it will occur again and again until It completely fails. I have posted in detail where and how to replace, also where I moved mine too for very easy access ( using the OEM wires from the harness - no splicing ) ….. Mike :ohyea:

I was in Johnstown, PA, a couple of weekends ago and got the D.E.S.S orange screen of death. I simply removed the key, re-inserted it almost immediately and it did start. I called the dealer that I use and was told that he had the part in stock and could replace it while I wait (one and a half hours) and gave me an appointment date and time. He quoted me a price and I told him that I had the B.E.S.T. warranty, he checked and told me that it would be replaced under warranty. I'm not sure if I'll need to pay the deductible or not, but that's beside the point. I'm just reluctant to ryde because I have no way of getting it there if it does fail.

IMOP this DESS is just another THORN in BRP's side...Just ANOTHER MAJOR DETERRENT, DISCOURAGING any prudential buyers doing their home work before purchasing their flawed and defective products...What BRP should be doing is finding a permanent fix and offering a free lifetime warranty on this flawed and engineered in problem, OR offering ALL owners the option to turn the DESS off...larryd

PS The module is NOT ALWAYS the permanent fix...I HAD 3 modules replaced and the problem still persisted UNTILL I HAD THE DESS TURNED OFF...They tried to blame everything under the sun that I was doing that caused the problem; LIKE, carrying other coded keys in my pocket, parking under certain hi voltage wires, parking too close to other sources EMI fields...

IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A LIST OF EVERYONE AND EVERYPLACE THAT CAN TURN IS 5 YEAR PIA OFF...

I just disabled the DESS for a 2014 Spyder that had the latest module installed. It appears the issue is not fixed. The rider said they had their module replaced and checked the part number and it was the latest part number. Their DESS almost stranded them several times while on a trip. If you have a 2014-2015 spyder, get that thing disabled!

I just had my DESS module replaced last week with the latest and greatest 5th iteration of it.
Replaced under BEST extended warranty, no deductible.
But, I'd love to have the system bypassed. What I'm reading so far is a trip to either Texas, New York or Alabama to "git 'er dun" ---- too bad, as my plans take me elsewhere :sour:

HAs anyone replaced the DESS antenna after replacing the newest module?

This would be after another DESS warning would display on the dash.

The Bulletin suggests to replace the antenna if you still get the DESS warning after the DESS module has been replaced already.

What complicates the issue for finding the cause are the thousands of 2014 RTs like mine that have never had a DESS problem coupled with the fact that there seems to be no consistency in what causes the problem. External influences can cause a DESS failure. I made mine give an error by having both keys at the ignition when I turned it on.

Deanna777 had to do it after Her first repair didn't work ….. Mike :ohyea:

So it sounds like its still working. That was the information I was looking for. :ohyea:

Now changing out the antenna is going to be a PIA. Since I have the TRIAXIS bars on there now. Thought I could feed all that thru the small opening at the key switch. But now that I think about it I still maybe able to do this without taking off the whole dam fairing. :yikes:

I'm pretty sure I have read everything posted about DESS …. I don't think BRP has this issue figured out …. from what others have posted it appears that the antennae effects about 10% of the failures 90% are the MODULE ( only ) …..good luck …. Mike :ohyea:
