Spark plugs. Cleaned air box. Replaced clutch and brake fluids.

Replaced coolant. Checked belt adjustment.

There "IS A PRICE" to be paid to ride something Sooo Cool. Ouch!! But, watcha gonna do? I'm still gonna keep on riding.

Looks more like a hospital bill, LOL... charging $0.63 each for a 1/4 ounce weight? I assume it was for wheel balance? $23 for 5$ worth of antifreeze and $9.98 for brake fluid? I would assume for that amount they flushed the brake system and didn't just top it off... Yep, hospital bill. I hope your Spyder recovers and returns to a normal, healthy life.

What were the 'ball bearings - 2' for... rear wheel?

bearings....

I was listening in the forum that some people were having their ball bearings going out at around 18 thousand miles so I thought I would just replace them while I had it in. I typically do not fix something that isn't broken but with the cost of removing the tire if it did need it in 6 thousand miles, I decided to just replace them now.

hmmmmm

You saved money i think by shipping the tire to you? and labor came out to something like $86.66666666 per hour. at least you have the satisfaction of knowing it's done and done correctly.

robbery

If your not handy with a set of tools this is what it is and of course your maintaining your warranty. I will tell you that as someone who is (or at least considers himself) handy with tools and doesnt have deep pockets in any way this is obscene. Of the very few things about my spyder I dont like it is the cost to maintain it. I could pick this all apart but I wont. I will never understand why it is that a shop thinks they need 90 bucks an hour. That is more than my dentist or doctor gets I'd bet. I know the tech doesnt make that but still its a rip off to be sure. These parts cost very little to produce but because they are specific to our machines etc they charge a fortune for them. ahh whatever I said I wasn't gonna pick it apart...:gaah:

I've known 2 people who's oil was overfull after getting it changed at Teds.... so you might want to check it.

One of them, it wasn't even changed. When her husband went to remove the extra, it was completely opaque black.

I'm glad my husband can do this work. (He's an auto technician) It's going to save us a boatload of money!

I ordered,an recieved my sevice manual today. What was performed on that service, is clearly explained in the manual, an could be done in less than 3 hours by a compitant mech. Except the brake fluid change ( if they flushed out all the old).

Total cost of my 12K mile service? "Zero" ziltch, nada. Total cost of maintenance service in 26K miles...whatever the oil and filters cost. Warranty is toast but no "technician" has screwed up my Spyder. It's a chance I am taking, but it's been worth it. I know that new oil goes in the oil change, along with a new filter, and I am positive that the oil level is not over-filled. IMO valve checks and adjustments at such low mileage is way overkill. But, if anyone feels better because the warranty work is done, go for it.

Yep, just wanted to share the info.

Yep, I just wanted to put this info out there for everyone. Compare it, pick it apart, scratch your head and ask, "What did I get myself into?"
I understand and appreciate all of your input.
To me, it is a ridiculous amount of money. That being said, I sure get GREAT ENJOYMENT out of this machine. After all, I am treated like a "Rock Star." ;) If the expense gets too high, I can always sell my Spyder but until then, as I said before, I'm riding ! I mean, if I sell it, then what the heck am I gonna do with my spare time? Sit on the couch? I don't think so. :spyder:

My 12,000 mile service was $270.62 in parts, $825.00 in labor plus the 9.75% sales tax in California of $26.39. They did not give me an itemized listing. Total price? $1,122.01

When I bought the Spyder I bought their pre-paid maintainance for two years for $1,600. It pretty much paid for itself already. Thank goodness for the the XtremeGuard pre-paid maintainance!

I love riding it too FYI. If you have a good dealer nearby, cant do any of the work yourself, and plan to ride a lot then the prepaid maintenance is definitely worth a look. If only i could get the buds then I most likely would NEVER take mine to a dealer and i am sad to say that cause I would really like to support a dealer. My first two harleys I had the greatest dealer in the world. heck i would ride up there early on a saturday morning have coffee with them 9and all the other bikers just there fro coffee or a few parts) etc. he sold his dealership and retired, some jerk took over who had the "new" harley dealership mentality which in most is "would you like to buy a ridicoulusly priced t-shirt?" etc etc. I know there are good dealerships out there ...just really wish I had one I guess.

Just laid out $500 for 6,000 mile service, but since everything works (so far), no complaits here. Yes I could do lots of this myself, but also laid out $1,000 for three year BEST and don't want to risk that by doing something I'm not well trained to do. Anyone who begrudges the $90/hr tech rate rate can go to one of many motorcycle tech schools and get in on the gravy train. We all know that they get just a portion of that and aren't getting rich. Anyone who begrudges the dealers cut can buy one of the many dealerships struggling during these tough times and have a go at it. Yes it was easier and cheaper owning two wheelers, but this is not your father's motorcycle. No excuses for techs who don't do work or dealers that rip you off.

yes lets overcharge those who have already laid out large sums at our dealership because we are sturggling to sell new bikes...makes good sense to me!

I got a quote of $1100 for the 12K service. I guess I am going to be doing it myself again. I change my own oil, filters, plugs, etc. anyways. Now I just have to decide what to do and what not to do. I certainly don't see myself replacing clutch and brake fluids after 1 year of ownership. Checked the wheel bearings and they are fine. Brake pads already replaced with new style, greased front end due to squeek. Not sure what else really needs to be done. I have the service manual but many of these things are either not needed yet or already done.

The biggest cost there is checking the valve clearance. Should be about three hours. Even more, if they need re-shimming.

.

The $1100 was without oil change, plug change, and valve clearance check. Crazy if you ask me. Dealer said the bleeding of the brake fluid was listed as a 4hr job with 2 techs.

Actually the valve clearance interval is scheduled for 6,000 miles, then every 12K thereafter. Still way too conservative, however, if you ask me. Also time consuming is changing the clutch and brake fluid. I don't remember about the clutch, but the brake fluid change and bleeding requires a hookup to BUDS to complete. IMO, the Spyder intervals are conservative and the service is expensive, but not any more so than BMW or Ducati.

without looking it up myself in the manual does anyone know why you would need to hook to buds to bleed the brakes??
