Jackets: Cold weather/winter ones

I am in the process of looking for a nice winter jacket, or something that I can wear on the colder morning (in the 40's).

Here are a few that I have been looking at, anyone have any suggestions?


-REV'IT Ignition Leather Jacket : I really like the look of this jacket, but im not sure how warm it will keep me?

REV'IT Sirocco Jacket : like the looks, seems like a really good jacket, but doesnt jumpt out to me like some of the others

REV'IT Cayenne Pro Jacket: awesome jacket (from reading about it) but im not sure if I need to or want to spend this much money.

The other two that I am considering are the

Scorpion XDR Shock Waterproof Jacket - Really like this one too, how does it compare in quality to the REV'ITs?

Teknic Freeway Textile Jacket -like the high vis yellow.

No experience with any of those. I like my FirstGear Kilimanjaro and my wife likes her Tourmaster Transition. Both well thought out, lots of features, comfortable, warm, and good ventilation.

:agree:I am ultra conservative so I wear body armor under it. It will keep you dry and toasty.

But I usually also carry a regular leather jacket and an electric vest. Here in New Mexico we have pretty wide temperature swings - even in the winter. It can be 30 when you start out and 70 or more in the sun later.

This suit is warm. If it is over 55 it starts becoming hot. I got my Spyder in March and it has been too warm to wear it. It was great on my motorcycle, but it was a pain carrying the 2nd jacket and vest. Now with the Spyder's trunk, this will get a big workout late fall through early spring.

I use a Challenger jacket from www.britishmotorcyclegear.com . This is my primary cold weather jacket. Just a quick note on this jacket. It needs to be cold for this jacket. I ride in California, and where I live it rarely gets below 20 degrees. Most of in the winter months the temp is around the low 30’s when I ride to work. I start to sweat in this jacket in the afternoon if I have the liner in as the liner keeps me toasty warm.

Common problem with a lot of these jackets. I usually wear a fleece vest, separate fleece jacket, or heated vest instead of the liner. More adaptable that way, and quicker to remove than a zipped in liner.

Hey Donk I absolutely love it. It is very comfortable to wear. My one and only complaint is that the zippers on the sleeves (upper arm) sometimes get caught in the mesh venting material if you are not carefull with the zippers. Other then that the jacket fits great, adjusts well and vents well. They have even gone so far as to colour code the snap ties at the ends of the wrists on the liners so that when you have zippered in the lining and are doing up the tethered snaps at the wrists that you get the correct tethered snap on the correct tie down point. The jacket even has the ability to put in a drinking water bladder in the back with a well designed clip for holding the drinking hose in front.

That jacket comes with an outer shell, an inner rain liner and an inner thermal layer. The high viz lime green actually does not look too bad with the black accent material over the shoulders etc. Well worth the money !

Yes, it is sized to fit over the same size street clothes, padding and all.

Looks really good, and a lot like the Scorpion XDR Shock Waterproof Jacket which I have been considering (except its only in all black). I started thinking I should go High Viz since sometimes ill be in rush hour in the dark.

I have the Scorpion XDR Shock Jacket which I also compared to the Scorpion XDR Commander Jacket when trying to find a 4 season jacket. I choose the Shock jacket only because it had a few more zippers to vent and that it had leather in the high "traffic" areas where as the Commander has no leather parts.

Other than that, I preferred the weight of the Commander as it's lighter when all the liners are installed/removed compared to the Shock Jacket. I would have also liked the storm collar that the Commander jacket has as well but I fell in love with the look of the Shock jacket. You will get compliments on either I'm sure but I do get quite a few comments on my Shock jacket (and Awe Pants). I also use the XDR Gunner glove which unfortunately doesn't keep you all that warm so I would choose something else. And while you are at it, check out the Rev'it Apache boots...which I also have.

They put a lot of technology and features into both jackets. Which ever you choose, you will not be disappointed. (But that Rev'it Sirocco Jacket looks pretty nice.)

Cold gear is the best I could find.Its thin and keeps me warm.I rode all year down to 2f.I can remove the liner and ride at 50F.
