• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I know everyone here is all googly eyed over the new RT, but overall, I am not overly impressed for the money IMHO. The seat for me was way too far forward and thought the front storage was way to narrow, although deeper. I thought the best benefit was for the passenger which was nice and cushy.
I guess I like the sporty ones we have now and I have customized mine to my needs. I hope they work the bugs out and it becomes a nice touring bike for everyone.

I'm looking forward to seeing one but I have no plans of getting one...as far as function goes, it's nice if you are riding with two people...as far as riding solo, I prefer our bikes...the sportier look appeals to me more too...

I am looking forward in seeing a RT in person, and to try it out. Seat being more forward, would be a good thing for me, and I have a passenger half the time with me now also. All a personal preference

I don't think the seat is forward, I think the bars are just pulled back more.

The trunk is narrower but you can get two full face helmets in there now.

I still love my RS and to be honest it gets a lot more attention than the RT. The folks that like to tour are drawn to the RT but pretty much everyone is drawn to the RS, except maybe Goldwing folks. :doorag:

RS is the sporty type and the RT is the touring version. Is there a difference between the two, handelbars, seat, etc.?

To each is own. Reading this forum you can clearly see that there is a need and a market for a touring version. So far I am very impressed with BRP on this one, although I have not seen it in person.

With the different mods I have I can change my Spyder from sporty to touring pretty fast. I plan on keeping mine at least until the warranty wears out, so another 4 years.

My dealer (FRS Powersports) is having their 'Grand Opening' (of their brand new location) on Sept. 25th. It's a special event for their Spyder and Victory owners. 'Looking forward to it! And, apparently, they will have the new Spyder RT's, and RS's.

I think it's intersting that BRP now calls ours the RS (Roadster Sport?) instead of GS (Grand Sport). I guess they changed it to go more along with the new RT (Roadster Touring).

I am really looking forward to see the new RT line. It's just not my thing - yet. Maybe in a few years it will be. The SE version never will be. I like shifting manually. But, it's a great option for those who like it, or require it.

And again; for $30,000, where else can you by such a machine (RT-S) with a matching trailer?

Like Lamont I like gadgets ... And if I could afford to get one and kep mine and also if my better half didn't ride I would consider it so maybe in the future but right now I'll be happy with what I have

I always find it interesting that people equate comfort / touring with an age qualification. I used to think that way until I took the time to ride a familiar route on a true touring bike vs. my cruiser, sport or sport "touring" bikes. Getting to your final destination and still wanting to keep going vs. being grateful to get off and "stretch" (euphemism for "every muscle in my body hurts") is a real eye opener. I spent some quality time on a BMW K1200LT a few years back and now have an '08 GL1800 in the garage next to my V-Rod and the wife's' Spyder (SE-5). I retired the K1200RS, Speed Triple and M2 over the course of the last decade and now have just a touring bike and a cruiser. No need for a sport bike living in Florida and I've learned that for street riding pain is not required to have fun. Sport bikes ALWAYS hurt me after an hour or so in the saddle.

I also thought the same about non manual transmission vehicles until the latest version of semi-automatics (aka manuals with a modified clutch arrangement) hit the street. We now have a DSG VW GTi and the SE-5 Spyder and love every minute of both. These aren't the slushboxes of old, trust me.

Going to a Spyder from anything is a leap of faith. If you can make that leap then keeping an open mind on comfort and shifting shouldn't be that hard. I'm just sayin' :doorag:

My deal

As i don't have a spyder yet i now have options. I like the RS because it is sporty and i can remove the givi bags if i want i also like the fact i can mod it the way i like. As for the RT it has alot of things i like and according to lamonster you can still thrash around a little and he seems pleased with the changes they made. I'am still up in the air thought, love the new blue. hmmmm maybe the 2010 rs blue with the matching trailer. IDK :dontknow: Hey i'am open for suggestions.

Good post! I'm 55 years old. No windshield or pullback bars for me! Lol! :joke: I love the setup of my Spyder. Also; I'm 6'4". And, I have ridden nearly 400 miles in a single day. And, I have ridden the SE5 Spyder. It's cool! Again; I like the entire manual transmission experience.

If I could afford a Lamborghini Murcielago, I'm pretty sure I could 'love' the paddle shifting. But, Give me a nice gated 6 speed manual! Hell yeah!

Well Fellows.

I'm over here from the Goldwing board and let me tell you, I'm all excited about the Spyper R-T.

I was at the Spyder dealership last week and he suggested I take the RS for a ride.
I think it wouldn't be a fair comparison between the RS & RT if only for the weight, but I feel now, if I make the plunge from my Goldwing, it will be the RT.

I'll follow this web-site closely between now and spring, so I'm counting on you Spyder owners to guide through this.

Cheers!

rpms

the big thing i was hoping they would do is make the 5th gear an overdrive as far asi can tell they did not. if i was going to buy an rt
which i am not that would be a definite deal breaker for me.
with all that torque you could easily cruise at 75 mph at 4500 rpm.
and if you wanted to pass you would down shift to 4th. all though in
NEW MEXICO YOU HAVE DO 95 TO PASS SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY.

welcome Be sure to look at all Lamont's videos of the RT-S. He's made a bunch of them and they should help inform you. Also, go to the BRP website and look for Factory Demo Days near you this fall that will have the RT available for ryding and viewing.

Have fun learning about our most favorite addiction!!!

:agree:
The fact that you can turn the RS into a quasi-touring bike is a great advantage. So is the customization. Does anybody know if there are any mods out for the RT's? If there aren't, I'm sure they will be soon. Then again, there are already a lot of bells and whistles on it.
