Airbag jackets

Do spyder ryders subscribe to ATGATT? Is there a perception among bikers that the safety gear is less important for the spyder than a two-wheeler? Do folks here have experience with Impact Jackets or Hit-air jackets or motoair jackets? (Airbag jackets).

There are a few here. The one that comes to my mind at this moment is BoneCrusher.

I always dress for the crash and not the ride. Motorcycle gear (full face helmet, jacket with armor, kevlar jeans, leather gloves, boots, etc.) clearly saved my life once.

I'm pretty lax on the dress gear code - also have enjoyed not wearing a helmet on occasion. I have no delusions that I should be wearing full gear for ultimate safety--- but I'm just not that concerned. I think the Spyder is a safer ride--- it's the cagers and deer that ya gotta look out for!

Bones just purchased a Hit-Air Jacket a few weeks ago and he is very pleased with his jacket, it looks well made and durable, and not to mention how sharp it looks. I'm sure he'll responed to this thread quite soon.
We've both been waiting, and talking about purchasing an airbag jacket for the last year. I'm waiting a few more months for the new 2nd generation airbag jacket from Impact Jackets. I was told that their waiting for the paperwork to come back from the D.O.T. for their new deployment system. (works as fast as an auto airbag, which they say has been developed in conjunction with the company that manufactures them for autos.)
They also mentioned that they received a large US military contract for their jackets. Well I'm still waiting... Chuck!

My wife and I have been using HitAir jackets for a few years now. Never had to use them "in anger" yet but they give some peace of mind..

I'm confident of myself and my ryde. It's the other 99% of drivers that I assume are trying to kill me. I'm a big believer in ATGATT, and include a hi-viz vest. Even with that, there are times I feel invisible.

Always assume the other guy is trying to kill you, and act accordingly. Think of the stupidest thing another driver could possibly do intentionally. Then imagine they're trying to do that but are on a cell phone and not paying attention. Count on that when making your move.

Dress for the slide. Not for the ryde.

Rod.

If you do a search, you'll see my lengthy assessment of the hit air...bottom line, I LOVE it!

I negotiated a $50.00 discount for the hit air with the owner of the company that sells them...good for any Spyderlover...lemme know if you're interested...

I consider the airbag jacket to be essential...nothing, and I mean nothing, will protect you in a fall like this type of jacket.

Motz and I have been waiting forever for the new impactjacket...the owner, on several occasions, said that he'd contact Lamont about sponsoring here, or having a big discount, or whatever...after over a year of this, I went with the hit air and I'm glad I did...this jacket is THE jacket that the Japanese police use...it is well made and its deployment system is top-notch...look for my review...it's very complete...

Bones, I wonder if it you would model it for us?

That could be arranged...will have to ask the wife to assist...

When you see it, you'll get it...very sharp! And no, I'm not going to inflate it for you...! :lecturef_smilie:

Isn't that a little dramatic? I've been separated from motorcycles without the perceived benefits of airbag jackets, and it wasn't the end......

Well, physical and mental are two different issues! :joke:

As far as being dramatic, I don't think so. Anyone who wants to argue about the merits of not wearing proper gear is really not taking a defensible position...on that note, I'm not saying an airbag is the ONLY way to go, as there is good quality protective garb of several varieties, but if you can put an airbag between you and the concrete, as well as wear a full face shield, you'll minimize the injuries as best as possible...nothing is absolute, but IMHO, if people are going to dump tons of money into their bike, they should maybe be at least a bit concerned about their safety and do what they can to protect themselves so they can ride their bikes for a long time.

Toughness won't help you when you come off your bike...proper protection and some luck will! There's more than enough info. out there about the danger of riding a bike...trying to minimize damage should be a concern.

Very interesting. I've never heard of air-bag jackets before. What a great concept.
To answer the original question, yes I do subscribe to ATGATT, although on very hot days I will sometimes skip a jacket. It's a risk I'm assuming.
And yes, I personally do feel a lot safer on a Spyder.

I'm definitly going to be buying one of these air jackets down the road. Right now for slow cruising in warm weather I wear a mesh armored jacket, half helmet with goggles, jeans, boots, gloves. For freeway driving I change to my full face helmet and add armored overpants.

Well I hate to say it but I do not subscribe to ATGATT. I was wearing a helmet faithfully but then went to a shorty in the hot summer. I stopped wearing work boots for my converse sneaks, no leather, no jacket no armor of any kind in the summer. Guess I'm bad but it's my fault if I get into a problem and I realize it.

I don't know - I feel so safe on the Spyder - nothing like how I felt on 2 wheels. My instincts are better on it, maybe cuz I know I'm not gonna highside, lowside, fall over, whatever but still MY BAD:dontknow: I admit it.

I ordered an impact jacket. The guy gave me 2009 price on 2010 jacket. The new one is $450! Zip off sleeves, zip out liner, waterproof. Mesh jacket. I like the airbag idea but I wonder if jacket is too hot for summer, or too much a PITA to plug in each time. But safety is safety and I crashed my triumph rocket once; without helmet I woulda been killed or vegetabilized

I think the issue is not so much feeling safe on the Spyder...the 3 wheels is inherently more stable...the issue is if you get hit while on your Spyder...so many people on the phone and texting these days, even with the Spyder having a much larger profile, we're still subject to idiot cages not paying attention...
