What Should I Pay for 2009

I am new to this site and plan to purchase a 2009 Spyder in the next few weeks. List is 16,499.00

I was going to make full cash offer of $14,800.00 and add the 6 spoke wheels at a disc. price of $250.00 Is that fair for the dealer and I ?

A dealer 90 miles away has a 2008 for 14,799.00 and many 2009's are on Ebay from 13,699.00 - 14,695.00

Do you think I can get a better deal in December (figuring dealers will have little sales of any bikes) ?

I respect your responses and Thanks !

Craig,

No problem with saving money on ebay...the bike is under warranty and you can still get the extended warranty for about 1000.00. I would try to get a late year 2008 or 2009 as they seem to have some corrections in them that might help the bike function a little better...

I just bought a brand new '08 SM5 last week for $13,200 out the door.

The tax isn't included in that price as I bought it in a different state and paid them when I got home. It was the last '08 model they had, so that may have been the reason for such a great deal.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

welcome

I wouldn't rely on ebay prices. Now that spyders are more "common" (I can't believe I'm saying this) you'll definitely get a better deal than what was possible 6 months ago. Especially is you are looking for an 08 as dealer will want to make room for the new stuff!

Good luck!

Craig, are you thinking SE5 or SM5? What color? If it is an SM5, drop the following $1,000.

For a NEW silver 09 SE5 with the wheels, I would offer $15,000 cash out the door, my top would be $15,500. With the new models "coming", I might even start at $14,500. I would not go over $15,500.

I really recommend also getting the extended warranty for around $1,000. My understanding is the dealers make some very nice money on this - that will sweeten the deal for them.

Since Spyders look sooooo good under the Christmas tree, I wouldn't count on much better deals in December.

It has been 6 months since I shopped around, so these figures may be high.
Maybe you could PM Dragonrider http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/member.php?u=3209
He just bought and is about 60 miles from you.

Good luck.

welcome Wait until dealers have the 2010 on the showroom floor and make a deal on a 2008 ( yes still some out there ) or a 2009. I love the 2010 but got way to much invested in my 09 to drop 30 k on a new one.:dontknow:

Tom,

I am looking at a new 2009 YELLOW in the crate. I am not sure of the model number distinction yet...but it is the manual transmission model. Dragonrider paid 15,000.00 for his and had some special deal with the wheel upgrade.

I know prices can also vary a lot by region of the Country. I agree with you not to go over 15,500.00....I am going to shoot for 15,000.00 to include the wheel upgrade.

The salesman was really not wanting me to go elsewhere and hinted they would do a lot to get my business. Full cash should help too.

BMP extended their sales promo....so on the 2009 model I would also get $1,000.00 in farkles and a 3 year warranty instead of just 2 years.

Basically....I am going to type up the deal, have the check already made out and drop it on the sales managers desk. That is what I did with the last car I bought... I also told them... "I am buying one today, it can be you or somewhere else"...got a hell of a deal on a new Dodge Charger that way.

We shall see.........................:spyder:

Thanks for the responses !

I just bought one

I just bought a brand new '09 SE5 August 10 for $14.050 out the door. Plus Tax:2thumbs::spyder:

I got my new 2008 SM5 with the 3 year warranty for $13,058.00 after everything, including tax. The best price quote I got on an '09 was about $1000 more than that. For the yellow or red it would have been another $500. I worked all 5 dealers in my area to get to the bottom line.

While you are in the Salem store, make your offer. If they say NO. Call the Bend store and make the same offer - I'll wager you'll get your price from at least one of them.

S&K wouldn't budge for me - dropping $500 for an '08 - Salem wouldn't return my calls, so I bought from Bend.

In June, I bought my 2009 SM5, with 1" riser installed, tank bag installed, wheel upgrade, and full five year warranty for $15,700 out the door (no tax here, of course).

I suspect the 2010 pricing will help hold the prices up on the older ones - $16.5K will look pretty good, when compared to the 2010 prices. So now is probably a good time - also gives you time to "bond" to the Spyder before our wet season arrives.

Good Luck
Bill - Portland

Definitely want to shop for a deal....but ask around for the dealer with the best SERVICE...a few hundred bucks could make the difference on Saturday afternoon.....;)

Use Searchtempest: http://www.searchtempest.com/
If you are not financing and can buy from a private owner, you can save a fortune in taxes/dealer fees and usually get one with extra mods already installed.
I purchased both of my Spyders that way. In fact, what I did was post an ad on Craigslist for Wanted Can Am Spyder and put a cheap amount like $10k. Ended up gettting 1 almost new for 12k and a new automatic with mods and nice accessories for $14k
That site will search all of Craigslist.
