12V Outlet

Ok, I bought the outlet yesterday. Got the directions(which are as clear as thick MUD) or maybe it just me. I want to mount the outlet on the dash of my spyder. Where do I connect it. The directions talk about a trunk mount:lecturef_smilie: don't want that. Is there a connector in there some where that is just waiting for me to connect it to my outlet, or do I have to so some splicing? And do I really have to remove the trunk?:gaah: any guidance would be a big help. :nopic:

Thanks

There is a connector hidden in the control arm on the left side. I don't know if it will reach all the way up to the dash. I did not remove my trunk when I installed mine. Don't forget, there is no fuse in the slot for the 12 volt plug...just use the 3amp spare that's in the fuse box.

12V outlet

No progress yet, I checked the fuse board and have two spare accessory with out fuses. The fuses are in the cover. I think I just need to put in a 3 amp and run my wires from that accessory to my 12V outlet. Ant idea what gage wire I need? I could not find the hidden connector, guess it's hid pretty well.

I thought this was a viable option rather than removing the whole trunk etc. Can yougive me an overview of how it went down for you, any issues etc. I have found what Ibeleiv to be the wire for the plug, but can't quite fell the plug up there, how did you or did you even need to cut it free. I look forward to your response.

The wires are zip tied inside the arm so they don't flop around. Just cut the zip tie. I drilled a pilot hole in the trunk first to see if my "guess" on where should go was right. I was a little too far to the right, so I drilled the big hole a little more to the left. I was a little hard getting my hand in behind to hook up the wires, so I pulled them thru into the trunk, connected them, covered the connections with the rubber boot that is on the lead, then tightened the outlet in the hole.

Then I pulled the spare 3amp fuse out of the fuse box and put it in the empty "switched" slot in the fuse box. The hole thing took me about an hour, mostly because I was being extra careful drilling the hole.

Hope this helps! :D

It's been a while since I did this, so I can't remember "exactly" where they are, but they are hidden somewhere above the oil cooler in the frame. They are covered by a rubber boot. I think I found them by reading BRP's instructions, bad as they may be!

I have no idea on wire gauge since I didn't change any wires.

I put mine in dash you will need to extend factory wires to do it. Mine was zip tied to frame behind and above lh fog light:dontknow:

Well with all the help out there I got her done. No sure if I went the same way but it works... Thanks to all. I mounted it on the dash. And it works:yes:

Again Thanks

Were you able to mount it there without splicing any wires?

I went to my dealer yesterday because my trunk outlet didn't work, come to find out it was a blown fuse, every time he would insert 3 amp fuse and test it it would blow so he put in a 5 amp fuse every thing works now

I hate to say it, but something is still very wrong. When there is no load on the outlet, it certainly shouldn't blow a fuse under any circumstances. A voltage tester won't do it, for sure. If he used some other sort of device to test it, it could pull too much juice, depending on what he used. What is going to happen to the 5 amp fuse if no load blows a 3 amp and you plug in a 3 amp load? This is not going to be reliable. I suspect a partial short to ground, or a bad outlet.

This circuit only has 20 ga. wire. It is designed for a 3 amp maximum fuse according to BRP and accepted automotive standards. At 12 volts the wire will probably handle more, but you need for them to fix it correctly, not just jury rig a bigger fuse and hope for the best.

I did have to split the wires but it was no biggie. I've tried my GPS and Phone, they both work fine so far. The install was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I installed the 12V outlet today. The instruction sheet was fine until the part for the last 2 bolts on the underside. The photo was no help. Ended up jacking up the front end 12" and crawled underneath to find them.

The whole job must of taken 3 hours, with a few detours. I was surprised to see the plastic skid plate at the front was cracked in 2 places so I took it off and mended it with JB Weld. Looks like the PO hit a rock.

Not that I'm planning to hit anything but I'm hoping a forum search will lead me to someone who's fabbing them out of metal.

Rod.
