BRP Warranty Warning

A little clarification is needed, I think.

It sounds to me like the original discussion was about a "deluxe" factory warranty......and NOT about an extended warranty.....RIGHT ??

I too got an extended 3 years at what I thought was a good price, from a "3rd party" company.
It appears that I get NOTHING from the company that actually provides the actually warranty service, including no detailed contract with a list of what is and is not covered. This makes me more than a little nervous.

I plan to investigate it further as time permits but my dealer assures me that this is "normal" for this company.

What do you mean "Deluxe" factory warranty and extended warranty.

That's kind of what I'm asking.

One post said something like the "Best" warranty only went to 3 years and made it sound like it was a "real" BRP offering.

It is a bit unusual, I think, to extend the warranty for only one year.
And most "extended" warranties come from 3rd parties, mostly because the sales commissions are higher.

The various posts as the thread progressed left me a little confused.

This is the deal I purchased under:

They stated that this was the standard 2 year warranty with an additional 1 year BEST warranty.

The BRP warranties only can be up to 5 Years

I believe the factory bumper to bumper warranty from BRP is 2 years and the next 3 are called the B.E.S.T warranty.
Now depending when you get your bike there could be a promotional where they give you 2 (Factory)years plus another year or more depending on the promotion and that will be the BEST warranty.

My Dad just got another Spyder and they included a 5 year warranty.

I am sure if I got that wrong someone will correct me :roflblack:

Or you can purchase more of the BEST warranty up to 5 years

Sounds like you got it right to me. The only thing I can add is some folks have posted the BRP B.E.S.T. is not available in Florida. Something to do with state laws. Maybe someone from Florida can confirm.

This "gotcha" got me too..

Was it a dealer demonstrator unit? The warranty then starts when first registered as a demo. Not date of purchase.

I got this surprise yesterday in the mail too.

During the recent purchase process of my 17 F3-L, I understood (from the dealer) that I would get the full 2-year warranty + the additional 1-year BEST coverage. The dealer talked to the BRP district rep (dealer reps boss) to try to get them give me the full length of coverage, but they wouldn't budge. So, I guess if you bought a leftover demo that had been "in service" for 2 years, you would get no BRP factory warranty! Hmmmm.. I've purchased 2 demo motorcycles in the past and have always received the full warranty.

I've spent nearly 54k on BRP products in the last 26 months (2 Can Am Spyders and a Ski Doo snowmobile). Not sure at this point how much this latest decision of BRP's will effect my decision in considering any more BRP products in the future.:dontknow: It certainly will be a factor. Customer Service is very important to me.

At least some of you have the option of extended warranty
In the UK we cannot get the BRP B.E.S,T. extended warranty
I don’t think any of the UK dealers know of any other company that will offer extended warranty on Spyder’s
When I purchased my first Spyder in 2010 it had the 2yrs factory warranty and I did purchase an extra year with a specialist automotive company after the year they no longer offered any warranty on Spyder’s as they stated the number of sales were low and they could not access the risk to them to provide cover

I don't think you can call it a latest decision. I believe it's been the policy from day one. It just hasn't reared its head often enough to get the attention it's getting now.

Warranty and Demo Models

Was it a dealer demonstrator unit? The warranty then starts when first registered as a demo. Not date of purchase.

When I bought my 2012 RT Limited, it had been a demo for about 6 months (bought it in Oct 2012). Instead of chopping the length of the factory warranty, BRP actually EXTENDED it the six months that it had been in demo mode. So, my factory warranty expired two years from the date of purchase, or Oct 2014. I purchased the 3 year BEST warranty prior to the Oct. 2014 expiration of the factory warranty (still had about a year left on BEST when I traded it for the 2016 RT that I ride now).

So, I would say it depends on the dealer and the local rep ... if either one will go to bat for you to get the full warrantee from date of purchase, that is a good thing. In my case, I believe it was the regional rep that made the case to BRP, since the unit had very low miles (less than 300).

Maybe my experience was not "the norm" ..... all the best .... Ann

This is what my BEST warranty looks like.

Pertinent to the discussions above the operative phrase in your warranty document is "when the manufacturer's warranty expires." It expires two years after it goes into effect, which is when the machine is put into service. For a demo that can be months before it is sold. For title and licensing purposes a demo unit is considered new when it it sold. So a demo Spyder can be considered new for titling and in service for several months for warranty coverage, two completely different dates.

I am gona buy the 2 year come spring. What did you pay if you dont mind? TY

You can buy the B.E.S.T. warranty from any dealer in the country, so shop around.

You might want to get a quote from David Levitt at Sierra Cycle (520-459-2589). I've been shopping and his price has yet to be beat.
