Own a 2012 RTL,new to the site and new to the bike!

Like I said, I am new to both the site and the bike. My name is mike, and I just got a 2012 RTL,4000 miles good shape, love it so far! But I have a question for anyone that may want to help me out. Wife and I were out for our first ride this weekend and I was feeling and hearing the air shock making a lot of adjustments as we were going down the road. Is this a normal thing for these bikes? I have been reading threw some of the different posts on the air ride system sounds like some people love it some not so much. Me I thought it would be a good way to go, just want to make sure that it's working the way it's built to do. Thank you for your time!!

Congratulations on the new-to-you bike. You will learn its eccentricities over time. I haven't experienced what you're describing, but if it is adjusting to changing load and road conditions I'd say it's doing what it's supposed to.

Congratulations on your ride, I'll tell you the system on my 2016 RTL is adjusting regularly so I think it's normal. Chris

You might want to be sure you don't have an air leak as you could burn up the compressor if it has to keep running. You can check the pressure under the seat, maybe check it before you ride and then again the next day. Mine usually adjusts when I come to a stop never noticed while I'm at speed.

yeah, mine lowers when I come to a stop to. soon as I start out it raises back up to where ever I have it set to. 2012 rts

To both the spyder world and this site. Congrats on the new ryde..:2thumbs: never had much use for those self adjusting shocks I just run a standard manually adjust one....

Welcome to a great and very informative site. I'm also new here and as of 5 weeks ago have a new (to me) 2011 RTS.
My wife and I both love the Spyder after many years and miles on 2 wheels. We put over 3,000 miles on our Spyder in the first month of ownership.

My suspension works exactly as you describe. I've fiddled with the soft to hard settings but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It just seems to be the nature of the beast as conditions change.

Own 2013 RT SE5 - Heat

I am fairly new to the spyder world as I have only had my spyder for about a year and love it and can't ride it enough. The problem or question I have is this...I have the air scoops on it for the heating issue but find that the heat now blows directly onto my brake foot and can get some hot. Is there a way of diverting the heat or is this some thing I will just have to live with? Thanks.

:welcome: Since this is a new subject you might be better served by starting a new thread. On my 2012 I found adding Spyderpops cover plate to the right side ended my roasted foot problem.

Thank you one and all for the helpful words and help!! I tend to over think things at times and do not like being broke down. Like snowmobiling, the season in Maine is two short to be in the shop working on toys that you should be riding! Thank you again!

Air bag

I have to agree with Ann on this one. Earlier this summer on my '14 RT-S my compressor ran a lot. My back could feel all the bumps too. My air bag had a leak. It was fixed under my BEST warranty. I can't hear my compressor run at all now, but I know it's working.

Yes check the shock for a leak.the bag could have a small crack or a hole or even the air line may need snugged up at the fitting on one end or the other. But check all possibilities just to be sure.
