Gas Tank - I'm Confused

If you disconnect both analog gauges, fuel and temp, the center display will show both. One bar is on the left and one on the right.

If you DO switch to the digital gauges, there are a variety of items that can be used to fill the 52mm holes of the now defunct digital gauges (thread police - YES, I'm getting just a bit off topic!)

JT's shop sells a power outlet and a dual-plug USB outlet that fits perfectly in these holes. 12 V power can be found in the wiring behind the gauges.

You can also buy a 2-inch voltmeter for less than $30 (found mine on Amazon). There are other gauges that you can buy but they are more involved to install, like oil temp and pressure.

I also have a 2014 and my digital gauges annoyed me. When my bike was a full as it would allow, the top segment of the digital gauge never lit up. I went back to the analog gauges a year ago and I personally found them more usable.

I once got in a handle when I couldn't find gas after the fuel light came on, and I was pulling my trailer on an interstate. I went just over 30 miles and found gas with no issue. That's as far as I EVER intend to push my luck!

. The other day I was out riding with " Phyllis " and pushed the limit. The warning light came on and I noted the mileage .... drove another 25 miles to a gas station and put in 6.3 gal ( 2014 RT ). I fill to the lip of the tank. So it was absolutely not going to take any more gas....... I believe my tank can only take 6.7 gal (?) ... So I had almost 1/2 gal after driving 25 miles past the warning ...... Someone can do the math on this ..... Mike :thumbup:............. PS I do keep 750ml of gas in my Tequila bottle at all times :lecturef_smilie:

The most that I was ever able to stuff into the tank was 5.758 gallons... that was after traveling over 36 miles with the "low fuel" light threatening me! :shocked:

Like I said ... " I think the 2014 RT tank can hold 6.7 gal. " I filled it to the LIP of the tank and it took 6.3 ... this would leave 4/10 ths of a Gal if the 6.7 figure is correct .......... I could be wrong on the 6.7 and the listed amount of 7.2 (?) ( which can't be put in the tank because of the mandatory air space ...... On that tank full I registered 35 MPG ( I had been cranking it a bit :lecturef_smilie so my poor math would mean I wouldn't have run out of fuel ( that day ) until 236 miles !!! ....my low fuel light went on at 195 miles ..... so that means I could have gone 41 miles after the light came on............ This is actually on the low side because I normally avg 39 mpg ...... Hope this helps ...... Mike :thumbup:

Since we usually fuel up together by handing off the nozzle at the pump, I remember 5.9 gals... something and then handed off the nozzle to my wife so she could fill her F3T and the total on the receipt on both bikes shows 12.096 gals. Sooo, I guess I stand corrected. If averaging several tankfuls gives a better number, we put just slightly more than 6 gals each per fillup.

Either that or wifey was hot-rodding a little more :roflblack: . And the F3 does have a 6.9 gal tank they say, even if she has the same 1330/SE6 powerplant. I think I was slowed down by the grasshoppers in the grill on the RT. Either way back roads between Boise City and Pueblo were a blast!

A word of caution - we were slightly wind aided on this 237 mile loop of mostly secondary roads at average speeds in the mid 60's. Don't try pushing it this far or you might be "pushing it":roflblack:

Here is a portion of my gas record for my 2014 RTS where the gallons were 5.70 or more. As you can see the most I ever put in was 6.64 gallons. That was on my way to Spyderfest 2016 pulling my trailer and traveling at or over 70 mph. IIRC, I was sweating that one wondering if I was going to find a gas station or empty tank first! :yikes:

Thanks for the numbers..Idaho

Didn't think anyone had tested the tank capacity on the RT's over 6 gals, but you did and rode to the pumps several times:bowdown:. I'm guessing the 27.03 MPG average on these 13 rides is due to both towing the trailer as well as the interstate speeds pushing the "Barn Door". Thanks again for the numbers; Good recordkeeping!
