• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin 660, versus the Garmin 590

Can anyone please describe the functional differences between these two units?
(I already know about the 590's larger screen...)
What else did they change?

Thanks!

You don't need to remove the battery cover to charge it or connect it to your computer. It doesn't have a built in speaker and the battery doesn't last as long when off external, power. I'm not sure about the screen either having just switched from a BMW Navigator which is an upgraded 660. Not half as easy to read in bright light.

590 & 595 have the possibility to control the pneumatics presure but the sensors are too expensive in my opinion.

I am very pleased with my 590. Now, if only BaseCamp was as easy to use -- but I'm getting better with it.

Is this the video that you found?

Yes along with others, I was already leaning toward the 590 just because its newer. I have heard that some think the 590 is harder to see, but from what I have seen its good. I'm still waiting on the mount and harness to install. BTW I bought it for $550 refurbished on ebay (looks brand new), came with warranty and everything.

I'm been looking into that too. If my mount and harness ever comes in, it's been like 3+ weeks. Ordered from dealer OEM from Can Am.

I use my 590 and Google maps on most trips, I appreciate the differences in routing sometimes. I would love if someone could direct me to a simple tutorial on trip planning and saving the planned trip from computer to Garmin.

I think the video clearly shows the 590 screen is not as sharp and easy to read as the 660. I'm also considering a sunshade to help but can only find one on EBay that fits various models and is held on with two Velcro straps. It's cheap but looks a bit tatty. Any suggestions on which type to buy.

RTman, I think you got that backwards. I had the opportunity to use both on our trip to Valcourt. I have the 590 on the F3L and the 660 on the RTL and there is no question that the 590 is MUCH easier to read.

Ive used the 590 for a couple of weeks now and I struggle to read it in bright light. My previous GPS was a BMW Navigator V which was easy to read but on the BMW RT it is set in the dash so was partly shaded. Maybe my efforts to find a good sunshade for it will improve things.

Depending on the angle you put your GPS the lid will help but can still get distorted by bright sun..

I have had the 590 and 665 Now if you mounted it under your dash area. Then you will get a better view. In the middle of the handlebars not so much..
