• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Actions have consequences - but wow!

In 1993, I took a month and visited Russia. This was just after glasnost, but I had no delusions about the risks I was taking. I did everything I could to avoid provoking the authorities in any way and ultimately I had a wonderful trip (even though I was a little concerned when the police in Siberia confiscated my passport for a week.

This guy goes to the most repressive, possibly the most unhinged and paranoid place on earth and decides it will be fun to remove a propaganda poster from his hotel for a souvenir. WTF did he expect was going to happen to him?

not this.

not this.

I'll save my tears for the seven sailors who lost their lives in a maritime collision due to no fault of their own, while serving their country (us - you and me), not some entitled idiot who thought he should be able to get away with pranks in North Korea just as he doubtless did back home.

I have to agree with UtahPete. He was supposed to be an "honors" student yet apparently didn't have much common sense.

What he did was not wise.
What they did to him was not right.

I agree. The whole thing is a crying shame.

Apparantly the NK's knew he was on his last legs. At least he is home now. Thoughts and :pray: to the family.

I feel real sorry for his family: he put them through Hell...
Our prayers go out to them...:pray:
But I also agree with all of you who figured that he wasn't smart enough to realize that he "wasn't in Kansas anymore"...
He put himself in about the most horrible position that he could: in the worst place on the Planet to do so...
By the way: "botulism"? Really??? :dontknow:

Here's what I think happened:
He wasn't smart enough to keep his head down, and do his time... he either resisted, or didn't jump fast enough, when ordered by a Guard... One of the Goons put him in a choke-hold for just a little bit too long... nojoke

That's my wager; what do you think caused the death of so much of his brain? :dontknow:

Slightly off the topic here--but can we hope some of the same for Dennis Rodman?

keep in mind his brain wasn't working so well to begin with, going to nk & stealing :yikes:

He paid a steep price for a stupid decision.

Of all the places on the planet to go on a vacation, why in the name of all that’s holy, did he choose North Korea. This is a county where it’s citizens are taught, from like the first day out of the womb, to hate with every fiber of their being, Americans. What could of possibly made him think it was a good idea for an American to not only steal, but to steal a political banner. It was a propaganda banner to the rest of the world. To the North Koreans, it was a political statement which they must have taken as an attack on their Dear Leader. I’m sorry, but I cannot work up a lot of sympathy for anyone American who goes to North Korea for any reason.

I've kept silent waiting to see where this thread ended up. I agree 100% with the last few who posted.

This young man went somewhere he should never have gone to, and did something incredibly stupid in a country where punishment for that crime is to deter anyone else from even thinking of doing the same.

Did he deserve what he got? Not my call. I do feel for the pain he has caused his family. He could have avoided all of this.

Now if only punishment in the states was enough to deter would be criminals. nojoke.

A shame for sure...

Do feel for the parents and loved ones..:pray:'s for them all. But beware that is not the only place on earth this happens. :lecturef_smilie:

Have we as a country instilled in our kids that they are better than any county they may visit and that they can get away with anything they want?
Look at the riots and looting that have taken place recently, was anyone pursued caught and punished?
How about kicking people off of a collage campus because the kids didn't like what they said?
Or how about the groups of kids that go into a store in packs and steel whatever they want?

We have created our own problems with our kids by taking away any discipline options of the parent, or the school, then we applaud and approve when they have no respect for the police or any authority.:banghead::banghead:
Until we make them sit down, shut up, listen and learn before you speak, respect people in authority, the teachers, the police, and the parents, this type of stupidity will continue to happen because they will think they can get away with it.
After all, they get away with it here at home, and if they do get into trouble mommy and daddy with side with the child against whoever blamed them for doing wrong before they even find out the facts of what has happened.:mad:

Okay, I am done with my rant!

what they just said on tv was that he was going to school in china. when there on a break they asked who would like to go see north korea, so a few said they would like to. he was one of them. after that no one really knows if he took the poster or not.
