• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

WELL HERE IT IS,,,, the new yamaha

I wish them luck, they are going to need it. It's a nice looking bike but they have a lot of competition. Only 37 gallons of storage. Look what happened to Victory.

Having previously owned a 83 Venture (4 cyl, 1200 cc.s) with V-Max engine, I kind of like the new versions. I like the 27 inch seat height, but would have been happier with 25" like the Indian. The entry price point is not really bad for a full blown touring cruiser either. $25K. I can even buy one locally compared to the Indian which I also like.

I am not liking the one year warranty. You can buy extended though.

A $500 deposit now will get July delivery for a 2018. I have a feeling a few will be jumping on this one. I still have a place in my heart for "big iron."

My guess was right about it being a Venture--only now--it is the Star brand.

i read one article on it, and it said that it is a good running bike, but at low speeds. there is quite a bit of engine heat. guess it should of been water cooled

a few thoughts on the new model

A surprising focus for Yamaha. It takes a few years and some R&D to roll out a new product. I am sure there was a lot of talk when the news of Victory hit HQ. I'm not sure on the air cooled v-twin model as emissions will drive them to get some water cooling into the design (more R&D).

On the positive side, it looks like you get a lot for your money. Yamaha has been doing well on there new models, so maybe the market boys know something we don't. In any case, its nice to see bike manufactures make machines for the US market. I'm sure they will not sell too many of these in the world market.

I wonder what other new models are coming in 2018 across the various manufactures?

Jerry

I don't understand this one. The 1300cc V 4 water cooled shaft drive on the old venture was bullet proof. I have owned 3 of them and still have 2.
It seams that they could have worked off of the tried and proven platform of that engine and drive shaft.
I agree, long way to go to match the Goldwing. Looks like a step back, but then again, I haven't seen or ridden one so that is just my first impression.

air cooled -v twins will one day day away

Air cooled heavy metal = less dependability
while they are cool in the mechanical sense they break down more often
nothing more bullet proof to tour on than a Honda Goldwing - I am surprised that the 1832cc Honda engines haven't been sold as crate items for other three wheeled toy things like the slingshot or the spyder or or or.

Torque and very little vibration are the friends of older riders.

 Did I read this correctly: the red-line is only at 4,750 rpm?? :dontknow:
My Jeep Wrangler with the 258 cid straight-six revved higher than that! :D

Cruising rpm's on those big boys are about 2300. So 4750 sounds about right. I think we are talking torque, torque, torque here.

What did your Vulcan 2K spin up to? :dontknow:

No tach on that one--believe it or not. I am sure it was at the low end though. Did not take much throttle twist to snick it up into the next gear. It was ready whenever I wanted to shift. Don't think I ever took it over 90 either. How's that for babying the biggest two cylinder engine they had. :roflblack::roflblack:
